Altra Mont Blanc Carbon Men

The Altra Mont Blanc Carbon is a high-performance men's trail shoe designed for racing, technical terrain and long runs where speed is a priority. A full-length carbon fiber plate combines with a responsive midsole and grippy Vibram® Megagrip outsole.

The shoe features Altra's balanced cushioning platform with 0 mm drop and Standard FootShape™ Fit, which provides toe room while keeping the midfoot stable in place.

Carbon fiber plate for fast trail running

The full-coverage carbon plate gives the shoe a stiffer, more race-oriented feel. The construction contributes to an efficient stride and provides extra structure when the pace picks up on trails, mountain trails and technical surfaces.

The Mont Blanc Carbon is particularly well suited for trail running and fast long runs where you want to combine low weight, cushioning and a direct running stride.

Two midsole materials for responsiveness and cushioning

The midsole combines a core of Altra EGO™ PRO with a surrounding frame of Altra EGO™ MAX. The construction is designed to combine responsiveness with protective cushioning over longer distances.

The stack height is 29 mm and is classified by Altra as high cushioning. The heel and forefoot are at the same level, giving 0 mm of drop.

Vibram® Megagrip with Litebase

The outsole uses Vibram® Megagrip with Litebase technology for grip on both dry and wet surfaces. Litebase reduces the amount of rubber in the sole's base without removing the tread pattern needed for technical trail running.

The result is a competition-oriented outsole that combines grip with low weight.

Benefits of Altra Mont Blanc Carbon

Carbon fiber plate throughout the shoe

Developed for trail racing and technical terrain

Altra EGO™ PRO core and EGO™ MAX frame

Vibram® Megagrip outsole

Weight-saving Litebase construction

0 mm drop between heel and forefoot

29 mm stack height

High level of damping

Standard FootShape™ Fit

Ultralight breathable mesh upper

Ghillie lacing for more stable wrapping

Shaped and padded heel collar

Neutral running shoe

Breathable upper with a stable fit

The lightweight mesh upper allows for ventilation and helps keep the shoe's weight down. The Ghillie lacing distributes pressure across the midfoot and allows for an adjustable fit.

The shaped, padded heel collar hugs the heel and contributes to a stable feel when the surface becomes uneven.

Standard FootShape™ Fit

The Mont Blanc Carbon uses Altra's Standard FootShape™ Fit. The fit provides more toe room than a traditional pointed running shoe, but has a more enveloping midfoot than Altra's roomier Original FootShape™ Fit.

Standard FootShape™ is therefore not a pronounced wide fit, but a balanced fit with room for the toes' natural movement and a stable grip around the midfoot.

Who is the Altra Mont Blanc Carbon suitable for?

The shoe is suitable for those looking for a fast and well-cushioned trail shoe for:

Trail races

Technical trail running

Mountain running

Fast long sessions

Longer races and ultra-distances

Running on both wet and dry trails

The carbon fiber plate makes the shoe stiffer than a traditional trail shoe without a plate, making it best suited when speed and efficiency are prioritized over a soft and flexible ground feel.

Things to consider at 0 mm drop

With a 0mm drop, the heel and forefoot are at the same height. If you are used to running shoes with a higher drop, you should get used to the Mont Blanc Carbon gradually, as the load on your calves, Achilles tendons and feet may change.

Feel free to alternate shorter sessions in the new shoes with your regular running shoes during the transition period.

Size recommendation

Measure both feet from heel to longest toe, starting with the longest foot. Altra recommends adding approximately 0.5 cm before comparing the measurement to the size chart.

*The comparison size is your measured foot length plus Altra's recommended allowance of 0.5 cm. Example: if your foot is 27.5 cm, add 0.5 cm and select the row for 28.0 cm, which corresponds to EU 44.

How to measure your foot

  1. Place a piece of paper on a hard floor with one short side against a wall.
  2. Put on the socks you intend to use when running.
  3. Place your heel lightly against the wall and put weight on your foot.
  4. Mark in front of the longest toe.
  5. Measure the distance between the wall and the marking.
  6. Repeat with the other foot and use the measurement from the longest one.
  7. Add 0.5 cm and compare the result with the table.

It's a good idea to measure your feet later in the day, when they are normally slightly larger.

How does the Altra Mont Blanc Carbon fit?

Mont Blanc Carbon uses Standard FootShape™, which means:

  • Anatomically shaped and spacious toe box
  • More secure and enveloping fit around the midfoot
  • Normal volume over the foot
  • Slimmer fit than Altra's Original FootShape™
  • More room for your toes than in a traditionally pointed running shoe

The model is therefore not as roomy throughout the foot as, for example, Altra Lone Peak or Olympus, which use the wider Original FootShape™ fit.

What size should I choose?

  • Start with your usual size in Altra's Standard FootShape™ models.
  • Use the foot measurement plus 0.5 cm if this is your first Altra shoe.
  • If the result is between two lines, the larger size is normally recommended.
  • Choose the larger size if you run long distances, use thicker socks, or want extra room for swollen feet.
  • If you have a wide midfoot or high foot volume, you should try this model, as the Standard FootShape™ is more enveloping than the Original FootShape™.
  • Your toes should not hit the front of your shoe when you run downhill and your heel should be stable without slipping.

The spacious toe box is part of Altra's design and does not automatically mean the shoe is too big. Check the length, heel grip and midfoot stability.
