Avalanche shovels

Compare the following when choosing a shovel:
Blade and construction: A sturdy metal blade is needed to work in hard packed avalanche snow. Compare the size and shape of the blade.
Shaft and handle: Telescopic shaft provides longer working length and better leverage. Check that the grip works with your gloves.
Weight and packing dimensions: The shovel should fit in your backpack and be easy to remove and assemble.
In avalanche terrain, everyone in the group needs their own avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe. Combine the equipment with avalanche training and regularly practice buddy rescue and digging techniques.
