An avalanche probe is used to locate a buried person and determine the depth after searching with an avalanche transceiver. At Outdoor Buddies you will find avalanche probes in aluminum, carbon fiber and steel , with different lengths, weights and locking systems.

Compare the following when choosing a probe:

Length and packing dimensions: Choose the length according to snow conditions and area of use. Also check that the folded probe fits in the avalanche equipment compartment of the backpack.

Materials and stiffness: Compare the probe's weight, construction, and resistance to bending.

Locking system and handling: The probe should be easy to assemble and lock even with gloves.

In avalanche terrain, everyone in the group needs their own avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe. Combine the equipment with avalanche training and regularly practice the entire buddy rescue, including assembly and probing.
