Trancivers

Avalanche Transmitters / Transceivers

An avalanche transceiver – often called a transceiver – is the most important piece of your personal avalanche equipment. It is what allows you to both broadcast your position and search for others in the event of an avalanche. When every second counts, the equipment must be fast, reliable and easy to use even under stress, cold and poor visibility.

With us you will find modern avalanche transceivers from leading manufacturers, developed for high precision, clear search functions and stable performance in Nordic mountain conditions. Perfect for top tours, off-piste and all winter tours in potential avalanche terrain.

How an avalanche transceiver works

An avalanche transceiver has two main modes:

🔹 Send mode (SEND)

Worn close to the body and continuously sends out a signal. If you get caught in an avalanche, it allows others to find you.

🔹 Search mode (SEARCH)

Used if someone else in the group is buried.
Modern devices have:

  • multiple antennas (usually 3) for high precision

  • digital signal processing

  • clear arrows and distance indication

  • features for marking multiple buried people

This makes the rescue faster and more efficient.

Important features of modern avalanche transceivers

3 antennas – standard for best search precision
Mark multiple victims – important in groups
Smart signal filtering – reduces interference
Large, clear display window – easy to read in snow and sun
Automatic return to transmitter mode – extra security in case of a fall
Simple button and menu management – important in stressful situations
Battery life adapted for cold conditions

These features make a big difference in real-world rescue scenarios.

Who needs avalanche transceivers?

Avalanche transmitters are a must when you are off-piste:

✔ mountain tour / randonné
✔ off-piste skiing
✔ mountain tours in winter
✔ terrain near power lines with risk of avalanche
✔ guided tours

Important: Everyone in the group must wear an avalanche transceiver – not just one.

Avalanche transmitter + shovel + probe = basic equipment

A transceiver is only part of avalanche safety.
For a functioning rescue chain, the following is also needed:

  • avalanche shovel

  • avalanche probe

  • knowledge of how to use the equipment

We also offer complete avalanche kits for those who want a safe, comprehensive solution.

Tips before you go out

  • practice regularly with your avalanche transceiver

  • check battery level before each ride

  • always wear it under your outerwear, close to your body

  • perform a function check together with the group

Knowledge and habit are just as important as the right equipment.

Advice – we are happy to help

There are many models with different features and levels of complexity.
We help you with, among other things:

  • choosing the right model for your experience

  • the difference between simple and advanced devices

  • how to integrate the transceiver into your equipment

  • safety procedures for mountaineering
