The Exped Dura 6R M is a warm, inflatable sleeping pad for winter hiking, alpine tours, cold paddling adventures and expeditions. The combination of an ASTM-tested R-value of 5.8, RDS-certified down insulation and durable recycled materials provides effective insulation against ground cold in all seasons of the year.
Size M measures 183 × 52 centimeters and is seven centimeters thick. Despite the robust construction, the sleeping pad weighs about 850 grams and packs down to about 23 × 14.5 centimeters.
The R-value describes how effectively the sleeping pad slows heat loss to the ground. Dura 6R M has an R-value of 5.8 according to ASTM F3340-18 and is designed for year-round use, including overnight stays in sub-zero temperatures.
EXPED indicates a lower temperature of around −25 °C. The temperature specification should be seen as a guide and is not a guaranteed comfort temperature. How warm you sleep is also affected by your sleeping bag, clothing, tent, ground conditions, weather and individual cold tolerance.
The Dura 6R uses EXPED's Downmat Technology™ with down insulation inside the air chambers. The down has a fill power of 700 cuin and helps limit heat loss through air circulation.
The down's high insulation value in relation to weight and pack volume makes the construction particularly suitable for cold conditions. The filling is certified according to the Responsible Down Standard, RDS.
To protect the down insulation from internal moisture, the sleeping pad should be inflated with the included Schnozzel Pumpbag instead of by mouth.
The longitudinal air chambers run from head to foot, creating a seven-centimeter layer between the body and the ground. The construction provides support for the hips and shoulders and contributes to a stable sleeping surface even on uneven camping pitches.
The outer chambers are slightly higher than the central lying surface. This provides natural lateral support that helps keep the body centered and reduces the risk of rolling off the surface during the night.
The firmness can be adjusted by releasing a small amount of air when you lie on the mattress.
The Dura series is designed for adventures where durability and insulation are a priority. The outer fabric is made of recycled 75D/170D polyester with an airtight TPU film lamination.
The material is bluesign® approved and the construction is DWR-free. EXPED also states that no PFAS or PFCs have been used in the production of the model.
The rectangular shape provides an even width across the sleeping surface and works well with both mummy-shaped and rectangular sleeping bags.
The included Schnozzel Pumpbag UL is used to inflate the mattress without lung power. The pump bag is filled with ambient air and connected to the mattress's valve, which makes inflation fast and reduces the amount of moisture entering the mattress.
This is especially important in sub-zero temperatures, as internal condensation can otherwise freeze and eventually affect the down's insulating ability. The pump sack can also be used as a stuff sack during the trip.

Clear the tent site of sharp rocks, branches and other objects before laying out the sleeping mat. It is advisable to use a protective tent floor to reduce the risk of punctures and wear.
Inflate the mattress with the included Schnozzel Pumpbag. Avoid blowing with your mouth, as exhaled air adds moisture that can affect the down insulation. Do not fill the sleeping pad unnecessarily hard, but adjust the firmness when you lie on it.
Clean with lukewarm water, mild detergent and a soft cloth or sponge. The valves should be completely closed during cleaning. Do not use bleach, washing machine or dryer.
Allow the mat to air dry completely before storing. Store it preferably unrolled with the vents open in a dry, cool place. Keep the mat and the glue in the repair kit away from open flames and strong heat sources.
