The Exped Dura 5R M is a warm and durable sleeping pad for demanding hikes, winter trips and overnight stays where durability and insulation are a priority. The combination of an R-value of 4.8, synthetic Texpedloft insulation and seven centimeters of thickness provides a stable and well-insulated base for use during four seasons.
Size M measures 183 x 52 centimeters and fits one person. The rectangular shape provides an even sleeping space, while raised side channels help keep the body centered during the night.
With an ASTM-tested R-value of 4.8, the Exped Dura 5R provides effective protection against ground cold. The model is intended for year-round use and is suitable for winter hiking, alpine tours, cold-weather camping and longer expeditions.
EXPED indicates a lower temperature of around −20 °C. The temperature specification should be seen as a guide and not as a guaranteed comfort temperature. How warm you sleep is also affected by your sleeping bag, clothing, tent, base, weather and individual cold tolerance.
The sleeping pad uses EXPED's Synmat Technology with synthetic Texpedloft insulation. The insulation is bonded to the top and bottom of the air channels to limit air movement that could otherwise transport body heat away.
The construction reduces the risk of cold spots and provides more even insulation across the entire sleeping surface. The synthetic insulation is also less sensitive to moisture than down, which is an advantage during long trips and changing weather conditions.
The longitudinal air channels provide a thickness of seven centimeters and create good separation between the body and the ground. This provides both comfort and support on uneven camping sites.
The outer channels are slightly higher than the sleeping surface and act as lateral support. They help keep the sleeping bag and body centered, especially when changing sleeping positions or lying on a slightly inclined surface.
The firmness can be easily adjusted by releasing a small amount of air when you lie on the mattress.
The Dura series is designed for use where durability is more important than absolute minimum weight. The outer fabric consists of recycled polyester in 75D and 170D quality, laminated with an airtight TPU film.
The materials are bluesign® approved and the manufacturing does not use PFAS or PFC. The robust construction makes the model suitable for longer mountain trips, winter camps and other activities where the sleeping pad is exposed to regular and demanding use.
The included Schnozzel Pumpbag UL is used to inflate the mattress without using your lungs. This reduces the amount of moisture that enters the mattress and is especially valuable in sub-zero temperatures, as condensation can otherwise freeze inside.
The pump bag also makes inflation faster and can be used as a waterproof packing bag during the trip.

Clear the campsite of sharp rocks, branches and other objects before laying out the sleeping mat. It is advisable to use a tent floor or other protective surface to reduce wear and tear.
It is best to inflate the mattress with the included pump bag. Avoid overfilling and adjust the firmness while lying on it. Keep the mattress away from fire, sparks and strong heat sources.
Clean with lukewarm water and mild soap with the valves closed. Do not use a washing machine or dryer. Allow the mattress to dry completely before storing and store it preferably unrolled in a dry, cool place with the valves open.
Check the sleeping pad and repair any minor punctures with the included repair kit before your next ride.
