Topo MTN Racer 4 Wide Ms is a versatile and well-cushioned men's trail shoe, designed for technical trails, long runs and competitions. The Wide version features a wide 2E last that provides extra space throughout the shoe, while Topo's anatomical toe box allows the toes to spread naturally.
The fourth generation combines a responsive ZipFoam™ midsole with durable Vibram® Megagrip traction. An updated upper, improved heel construction, and more secure midfoot lockout provide the control you need when the terrain gets rough and technical.
Topo Athletic is known for its roomy, foot-shaped toe box. The wide men's version uses a 2E last that provides more room than the standard model - a great option for runners with wide feet or who need extra volume across the midfoot.
The toes are allowed to work naturally for better balance and stability, while the upper holds the heel and midfoot in place. The result is a fit that combines freedom of movement in the forefoot with confident control in technical terrain.
The ZipFoam™ midsole provides a balanced combination of cushioning, protection and energy return. The sole height is 33 mm under the heel and 28 mm under the forefoot, giving a 5 mm drop.
The relatively high cushioning makes the MTN Racer 4 comfortable during long training sessions and ultra races, while the responsive feel is suitable when the pace increases. The shoe lacks a rock plate, but the midsole height and outsole construction still provide a protective layer between the foot and the ground.
The Vibram® Megagrip outsole provides reliable grip and high durability on demanding surfaces. It performs well on rocks, roots, gravel and loose forest paths, and provides control in both dry and wet conditions.
The combination of grip, cushioning and a stable platform makes the shoe useful for everything from daily trail training to longer mountain runs and technical ultra-distances.
The new FKT insole is made of beaded foam cells that absorb some water and help the shoe drain faster after passages through streams, wet grass and mud. The material also provides a softer step-in feel and extra responsiveness underfoot.
An improved gaiter attachment system helps keep gravel, needles and other debris out of the shoe. The MTN Racer 4 is compatible with the Topo Athletic Switchback Gaiter, sold separately.

The Topo MTN Racer 4 Wide Ms has a wide 2E fit and is suitable for runners who need more room than Topo's standard last. The Wide model is also designed to keep the midfoot and heel stable, while the toe box provides plenty of room for natural toe spread.
The model is generally perceived as normal in length. Choose your usual running shoe size as a starting point. If you are between sizes, run very long distances or want extra room for swollen feet, the larger size is recommended.

Brush off loose dirt after use and clean the shoes by hand with lukewarm water, a soft brush and mild detergent. Remove the insoles and untie the laces for easier cleaning and drying. Do not machine wash or tumble dry the shoes. Allow them to air dry at room temperature and avoid radiators, drying cabinets and other direct heat sources.

The size conversion is the same for the standard and wide versions. Wide affects the width and volume of the shoe, not its stated length.
Topo states that CM measurements are based on the insole measurements, so measure your foot and leave extra room in front of your toes.
The MTN Racer 4 is generally considered to be a normal length. The upper in the fourth version sits slightly tighter over the midfoot than some previous Topo models to provide better control in technical terrain.
The Wide version has approximately the following width:
The standard version of Topos already has an anatomically wide toe box. Wide is therefore mainly recommended when the standard version presses on the forefoot or midfoot – not just because you want a lot of room around the toes.
Most users find the MTN Racer 4 to be normal in length, but opinions on the width vary more. Runners with wide forefeet generally appreciate the toe room, while some find the Wide version to be too roomy and allow the foot to move around in the shoe.
There are also users who find the model to be slightly shorter or less roomy across the midfoot than other wide Topo models. If you are between sizes, or have long toes, a half size larger is often the safer choice.
Measure both feet in the afternoon or evening, when they are normally at their largest. Wear the running socks you plan to wear with your shoes.
For long runs or a lot of downhill running, you may need closer to 0.8–1 cm of extra space in front of the longest toe.
The right size and width means that:
If the length feels right but your foot moves sideways, the Wide version is probably too wide. If the shoe presses on the forefoot despite being the right length, the Wide is a better choice than going up several sizes.
