The Altra Women's Lone Peak 9+ is generally normal in length but has a significantly roomier toe box than many other trail shoes. The model uses Altra's Original FootShape, the brand's roomiest fit with extra room for the toes and space through the midfoot.

Measure both feet and compare the measurements of the longer foot with the table before choosing a size.

How is the Altra Lone Peak 9+ Woman sized?

The Lone Peak 9+ is generally perceived as normal in length. A compilation of 96 user votes for the model indicates the fit as normal in size. Testers also describe the toe box as very spacious and slightly roomier than the previous version.

Fit
Experience
Length
Generally normal in size
Toe box
Very spacious and foot-shaped
Metatarsal
More spacious than in several other Altra models
Toe height
Normal – not as generous as the toe box width
Narrow feet
Can be perceived as wide and voluminous
Wide forefeet
Plenty of room for natural toe spreading

A spacious toe box does not automatically mean that the shoe is too big. The toes should be able to move, while the heel and midfoot should be held firmly in place.

Our size recommendation

First of all, choose your usual size in Altra women's shoes. If you already wear Lone Peak and are happy with the size, you can usually choose the same size in Lone Peak 9+.

Choose a half size larger if:

  • you are between two sizes
  • the measurement is close to the upper limit of the size
  • you have a wide or voluminous metatarsal
  • you wear thicker socks
  • you should use the shoes for long runs or hiking
  • you want extra space when your feet swell
  • toes come close to the leading edge on downhill slopes

Don't go down a size just because the toe box feels wide. A smaller size may be too short and cause your toes to hit the front of the shoe.

If you have narrow or low-volume feet, you should first try a heel-locking lacing system. If your foot still moves a lot in the shoe, a model with Altra's Standard or Slim FootShape may be a better fit.

How to measure your feet

  1. Measure in the afternoon or evening when your feet are usually at their largest.
  2. Wear the socks you plan to wear with your shoes.
  3. Place a piece of paper on a hard floor next to a wall.
  4. Place your heel lightly against the wall and put normal weight on your foot.
  5. Mark where the longest toe ends.
  6. Measure the distance from the edge of the paper to the mark.
  7. Repeat with the other foot, starting from the longer one.
  8. Add 0.5 cm and compare the result with the table.

Check the fit

The heel should be stable and the midfoot should be held in place without uncomfortable pressure. The toes should be able to move freely without hitting the front edge of the shoe.

Try the shoes on an incline. When trail running and hiking, it is especially important that your foot does not slide forward when you move downhill. Check the fit with the socks you will actually use.
