VJ Sarva Polar Mid 2 – Maximum grip and comfort for winter conditions

See our entire range from the VJ here!

The VJ Sarva Polar 2 is a warm, waterproof and studded winter shoe for walking, hiking and active outdoor activities on snow and ice. The wide, foot-shaped last gives your toes plenty of room, while the PerFOAMance midsole cushions your steps on hard and frozen surfaces.

The Superior Contact outsole features 17 star-shaped carbon steel studs per shoe. The studs provide a secure grip on ice and packed snow, while the sole's rubber pattern contributes to comfort and contact on harder surfaces.

17 star-shaped studs for winter grip

Each shoe has 17 carbon steel studs. The star-shaped design creates multiple gripping edges that penetrate ice and hard-packed snow.

The studs are integrated into the VJ Superior Contact outsole. The rubber sole pattern complements the steel studs on snow, gravel and other varied winter surfaces.

Waterproof upper with warm fleece lining

The durable upper has a cohesive construction that protects the foot in wet winter conditions. Between the upper and the soft fleece lining is VJ's waterproof Performadry membrane.

The lining provides extra warmth on cold days, while the membrane helps keep snow, slush and wet out. The construction makes the Polar 2 suitable for everything from dog walking and everyday use to longer winter hikes.

Wide and foot-shaped fit

The VJ Sarva Polar 2 has a Fit Scale of 4 out of 5 and is one of VJ's wider models. The foot-shaped last provides more space in the toe box so that the toes can lie naturally and contribute to balance and stability.

The roomy fit also allows for the use of a slightly thicker winter sock. The shoe should also sit firmly around the heel and midfoot to prevent movement when the surface is uneven or slippery.

PerFOAMance cushioning for hard surfaces

The PerFOAMance midsole provides soft and responsive cushioning on ice, frozen ground and hard-packed winter roads. The cushioning reduces the numbing sensation that can easily occur in studded shoes on hard surfaces.

The combination of cushioning, wide platform and winter grip makes the Polar 2 comfortable for longer walks and many hours of outdoor activity.

The VJ Sarva Polar 2 has a wide, foot-shaped unisex fit. Fit Scale 4 means the model is wider than most of VJ's technical running shoes and provides plenty of room for your toes.

Choose your usual size as a starting point. If you are between sizes or plan to wear thick winter socks, the larger size is recommended. Please try the shoe on with the type of sock you will be wearing during the winter.

Important information about studded shoes

Steel studs can damage wood, plastic and other sensitive floors. They can also be slippery on smooth surfaces such as stone, metal and tile. Walk carefully indoors and do not wear your shoes on floors that can be scratched.

To reduce wear on the studs, unnecessary use on bare asphalt and other hard surfaces should be limited.

Care instructions

Brush off snow, salt, gravel and dirt after use. Clean the upper with lukewarm water and a soft brush or cloth. Do not machine wash or tumble dry the shoes.

Remove the insoles and let the shoes and soles air dry at room temperature. Avoid radiators, drying cabinets and other direct heat sources as high heat can damage membranes, adhesives and materials. Regularly check that the studs are properly seated.

The VJ Sarva Polar Mid 2 is a unisex winter boot with a wide, foot-shaped last, spacious toe box and warm fleece lining. The model is relatively short in size, so many people need to choose at least one EU size larger than usual.

Always measure your foot and allow for extra space for winter socks and insulating air in front of your toes.

How is the VJ Sarva Polar Mid 2 sized?

The model has a VJ Fit Scale of 4 out of 5 , which means a relatively wide fit. The toe box is spacious and allows the toes to move, while the lacing helps keep the foot stable.

Despite the wide last, the shoe feels short in size. The warm lining also takes up more space than the inside of an unlined shoe. Your usual EU size may therefore be too short, especially with a thicker winter sock.

User size perception

User reviews clearly show that the model is often perceived as small in length:

  • several users have chosen a size larger than normal,
  • some have had to go up two EU sizes,
  • the toe box is generally perceived as spacious and comfortable,
  • the fit is especially appreciated by people with wide forefoot,
  • The wide last can be unnecessarily roomy for a narrow foot.

The size you need is greatly influenced by the shape of your foot, the thickness of your sock, and how much extra winter space you prefer. Therefore, measure your foot instead of just using your regular shoe size.

Our size recommendation

  • Start with one EU size larger than your normal size.
  • If you are between two sizes, you should choose the larger one.
  • Compare the foot length with the inside measurement and leave about 1–1.5 cm extra space.
  • With very thick socks, up to about 1.7 cm of extra space may be appropriate.
  • Go up two sizes if your usual size leaves less than about 1 cm in front of the longest toe.
  • If you have a wide forefoot but a narrow heel, you should choose the right length and then adjust the heel grip with the lacing.
  • Don't choose a size that is too small to get better heel grip - this will reduce both comfort and insulation.

How to measure your foot

Measure both feet in the afternoon or evening. Wear the same socks you plan to wear with your boots.

  1. Place a piece of paper with the short side against a wall.
  2. Place your heel lightly against the wall with your entire body weight on your foot.
  3. Mark in front of the longest toe.
  4. Measure from the edge of the paper to the mark.
  5. Repeat with the other foot.
  6. Start from the longer foot.
  7. Add approximately 1–1.5 cm and compare the result with the inner measurements in the table.

Example: If the longer foot measures 25 cm, you should look for a size with approximately 26–26.5 cm of internal space.

Why is extra space needed in a winter shoe?

A winter boot should not be as tight as a racing or trail shoe. A certain amount of air space in front of the toes contributes to better comfort and insulation.

A size that is too small can:

  • press the fleece lining together,
  • limit the movement of the toes,
  • impair blood circulation,
  • make your feet colder,
  • create pressure against the toes on downhill slopes.

At the same time, the shoe should not be so large that the heel lifts or the foot slides sideways.

Check the fit

The right size means that:

  • there is about 1–1.5 cm in front of the longest toe,
  • the toes can move without touching the front edge of the shoe,
  • the forefoot is not compressed from the sides,
  • the socks fit without the lining being compressed too much,
  • the heel sits securely when the laces are tightened,
  • your foot doesn't slide forward when you walk downhill,
  • the shaft wraps around the ankle without painful pressure,
  • The foot feels warm but not trapped or numb.

Feel free to try the boots indoors with the right winter socks and walk both uphill and downhill before you decide.
