The Altra King MT 2 Women is an iconic trail shoe for those who run on technical, steep and demanding terrain . This model is back in its classic form – without compromise – and offers maximum grip, ground contact and control when the surface is at its toughest.
The outsole is equipped with Vibram® Megagrip in combination with Vibram® Litebase , which provides exceptional grip on both wet and dry surfaces while keeping the weight down. The aggressive studs and integrated drainage system make the shoe particularly suitable for mud, loose gravel, rocky downhill runs and mountainous terrain .
The Altra EGO™ midsole provides a responsive, firm ride with low-profile cushioning for optimal ground contact. A built-in StoneGuard™ plate protects the foot from sharp rocks and debris without compromising flexibility. The durable mesh upper with dynamically cut eyelets provides both comfort and flexibility during movement.
With a 0mm drop and Altra's renowned FootShape™ Standard fit, you get a roomy toe box that lets your toes work naturally while keeping your midfoot stable and secure. GaiterTrap™ attachments make it easy to use gaiters without a strap under your foot—perfect for dirty and technical environments.

The Altra Women's King MT 2 has a more body-hugging, precise fit than roomier Altra models like the Lone Peak and Olympus. It uses the Standard FootShape, which provides room for the toes but a more secure grip around the midfoot.
The King MT 2 is often described as low in volume and slightly small in size, so measure both feet and use the longer foot when choosing your size.

*The comparison measurement is the measured length of the longer foot plus 0.5 cm. Therefore, do not add additional space when comparing the result with the table.
The King MT 2 has a low-volume, race-oriented fit and an upper that isn't as stretchy or forgiving as roomier Altra models. Many users opt for a half-size larger than the Lone Peak, Olympus, and other Altra shoes.
The toe box is still wider and more foot-shaped than many traditional trail shoes, but the Standard FootShape is not as roomy as the Original FootShape.
| Fit | Experience |
| Length | Normal to slightly short |
| Toe box | Foot-shaped but less spacious than Lone Peak and Olympus |
| Metatarsal | Body-hugging and low in volume |
| Upper part | Structured and relatively little stretchy |
| Strap | Provides extra fixation over the midfoot |
| Heel | Slim and enveloping |
| High ankle | Can feel tight |
If you are unsure, choose a half US size larger than your usual Altra size, especially if you have previously worn Lone Peak or Olympus with Original FootShape.
Choose a half size larger if:
Your regular Altra size may work if:
Some users may need to go up a full size, but only if the regular size is clearly too short or puts too much pressure on the foot. Too much extra length can impair precision in technical terrain.
| Model | FootShape | Relative fit |
| King MT 2 | Standard | Low volume and very precise |
| Superior 7 | Standard | Close-fitting but slightly more forgiving |
| Lone Peak 9+ | Original | Roomier toe box and midfoot |
| Olympus 275 | Original | Significantly more volume and toe space |
Therefore, do not automatically choose the same size as in Lone Peak or Olympus without first checking the foot length.
The strap should provide extra stability but should not be pulled so tightly that it creates pressure over the ankle. Try to:
If the length is correct but the shoe still puts a lot of pressure on the midfoot, a roomier Altra model may be a better option. Extra length doesn't always solve a lack of volume.
The heel and midfoot should sit very stable without painful pressure. The toes should be able to move and should not hit the front edge of the shoe.
Try the shoes on an incline. The King MT 2 is designed for steep and technical terrain, which makes it especially important that your foot does not slide forward or sideways. First adjust the laces and then the strap.
