The Altra Women's King MT 2 has a more body-hugging, precise fit than roomier Altra models like the Lone Peak and Olympus. It uses the Standard FootShape, which provides room for the toes but a more secure grip around the midfoot.

The King MT 2 is often described as low in volume and slightly small in size, so measure both feet and use the longer foot when choosing your size.

How is the Altra King MT 2 Woman sized?

The King MT 2 has a low-volume, race-oriented fit and an upper that isn't as stretchy or forgiving as roomier Altra models. Many users opt for a half-size larger than the Lone Peak, Olympus, and other Altra shoes.

The toe box is still wider and more foot-shaped than many traditional trail shoes, but the Standard FootShape is not as roomy as the Original FootShape.

Fit
Experience
Length

Our size recommendation

If you are unsure, choose a half US size larger than your usual Altra size, especially if you have previously worn Lone Peak or Olympus with Original FootShape.

Choose a half size larger if:

  • you are between two sizes
  • the measurement is close to the upper limit of the size
  • you have a high ankle or voluminous metatarsal
  • you wear thicker socks
  • your usual Altra size tends to fit tight
  • you want extra space when your feet swell
  • the toes come close to the front edge of the shoe when running downhill

Your regular Altra size may work if:

  • the foot measurement is clearly below the size comparison measurement
  • you have narrow or low-volume feet
  • you wear thin socks
  • you want a precise fit for racing and technical terrain
  • you have already tried the King MT 2 in the same size

Some users may need to go up a full size, but only if the regular size is clearly too short or puts too much pressure on the foot. Too much extra length can impair precision in technical terrain.

Comparison with other Altra models

Model

King MT 2
Standard
Low volume and very precise
Superior 7
Standard
Close-fitting but slightly more forgiving
Lone Peak 9+
Original
Roomier toe box and midfoot
Olympus 275

Therefore, do not automatically choose the same size as in Lone Peak or Olympus without first checking the foot length.

If the shoe presses on the foot

The strap should provide extra stability but should not be pulled so tightly that it creates pressure over the ankle. Try to:

  1. Loosen the strap completely before adjusting the lacing.
  2. Loosen the laces over the part of the foot where the pressure occurs.
  3. Tighten more around the ankle than over the forefoot.
  4. Attach the strap last and use only as much tension as necessary.

If the length is correct but the shoe still puts a lot of pressure on the midfoot, a roomier Altra model may be a better option. Extra length doesn't always solve a lack of volume.

How to measure your feet

  1. Measure in the afternoon or evening when your feet are usually at their largest.
  2. Wear the socks you plan to wear with your shoes.
  3. Place a piece of paper on a hard floor next to a wall.
  4. Place your heel lightly against the wall and put normal weight on your foot.
  5. Mark where the longest toe ends.
  6. Measure the distance from the edge of the paper to the mark.
  7. Repeat with the other foot, starting from the longer one.
  8. Add 0.5 cm and compare the result with the table.

Check the fit

The heel and midfoot should sit very stable without painful pressure. The toes should be able to move and should not hit the front edge of the shoe.

Try the shoes on an incline. The King MT 2 is designed for steep and technical terrain, which makes it especially important that your foot does not slide forward or sideways. First adjust the laces and then the strap.
