The Sea To Summit Ether Light XR Pro Insulated Air Sleeping Mat - Regular is a warm, thick and lightweight sleeping mat for winter camping, cold mountain hikes and alpine adventures. An ASTM-tested R-value of 7.4 is combined with ThermalCore insulation and 10 centimeter-high Air Sprung Cells for effective insulation and high sleeping comfort.
The regular version measures 183 × 55 centimeters and weighs approximately 560 grams. The tapered shape keeps weight and pack volume down and is suitable for those who want a warm four-season base without an unnecessarily large lying surface.
The R-value describes how effectively the sleeping pad prevents heat loss to the ground. The Ether Light XR Pro has an R-value of 7.4, tested according to ASTM F3340. This makes the model suitable for four-season use and overnight stays in temperatures well below freezing.
The R-value is not an exact temperature limit. Sleeping comfort is also affected by the sleeping bag, clothing, ground temperature, humidity, wind protection and individual cold tolerance.
On demanding winter trips, the sleeping pad can be advantageously combined with a foam pad. This provides additional insulation and acts as a safety margin in case the inflatable pad is punctured.
The ThermalCore insulation consists of three heat-reflecting TRM layers suspended inside the sleeping pad. The layers reflect back some of the body's heat radiation while limiting air movement between the warm top and the cold ground.
The insulation material is softer and quieter than many traditional reflective films, but some noise may still be generated when the outer fabric moves against the tent floor or sleeping bag.
The updated XR Pro construction is, according to Sea to Summit, 25 percent lighter and packs into approximately half the volume compared to previous equivalent Ether Light models.
The sleeping pad is made up of many interconnected Air Sprung Cells. The air cells function much like small springs and distribute the body weight across the sleeping surface.
The 10-centimeter thickness provides plenty of clearance from uneven and cold ground and reduces the risk of hips or shoulders being pushed through the surface. The firmness can be finely adjusted with the valve, making the model comfortable for different sleeping positions.
Regular measures 183 centimeters in length and 55 centimeters in width. The model is recommended for users up to approximately 183 centimeters tall.
The sleeping pad itself weighs approximately 560 grams. With the packing bag and the integrated pump function, the total packed weight is approximately 620 grams. The pad packs down to approximately 21 × 12 × 12 centimeters.
Regular has a tapered shape that saves weight and space around the toe. It should not be confused with Regular Rectangular Wide, which is wider, completely rectangular, and weighs more.
The included stuff sack also doubles as an Airstream pump sack. Fill the bag with air, connect it to the valve, and then press the air into the sleeping pad. The large air volume means the pad can be filled in just a few passes.
The pump bag also reduces the amount of moisture from exhaled air that enters the sleeping pad. This is especially valuable on winter trips, when internal condensation can freeze and affect the function of the pad.
The XPRESS valve has functions for inflation, fine adjustment and quick deflation. If the sleeping pad feels too hard, a small amount of air can be released without the need to deflate the entire pad.
When it's time to pack, the valve opens fully so that the air can quickly leave the cells while the mat is rolled up.
The outer fabric is made of durable 30D/40D nylon with TPU lamination. The airtight lamination is designed to create a durable bond between the nylon fabric and the TPU layer.
The XR Pro has higher weld strength than previous Ether Light generations. This provides a more durable construction without adding unnecessary weight. However, the ground should always be checked and cleared of sharp rocks, branches and other objects that could cause a puncture.
Sea to Summit states that their sleeping products have not been treated with PFAS or flame retardants.
Included PillowLock mounts can be mounted to the base and used with a compatible Sea to Summit Aeros pillow. The system helps keep the pillow in place as you move throughout the night.

Unroll the mat onto a clean surface and connect the pump opening of the packing bag to the XPRESS valve. Fill the pump bag with air and press the air into the mat. Repeat until the mat is firm, then fine-tune the pressure with the valve.
It is best to use the pump bag instead of inflating the mat directly with your mouth. This makes inflation easier and reduces the amount of condensation that collects inside the mat.
Wipe the mat with warm water and mild soap. Rinse off any soap residue and allow the mat to air dry completely before packing away.
For long-term storage, the substrate should be loosely folded with the valve open. This allows any moisture to escape from the inside and reduces the strain on the valve and material. Store it dry and protected from strong heat, direct sunlight and sharp objects.
