The Sea To Summit 50mm Side Release Field Repair Buckle is a side-release replacement buckle for backpack hip belts and other equipment with 50mm wide, adjustable straps. The buckle has an integrated step lock on both sides, so that both straps can be threaded through the buckle and the length can be adjusted.
This model lacks removable metal pins, making it different from Sea to Summit's 1-Pin and 2-Pin buckles. It fits when both strap ends are loose and can be threaded through the buckle.
Each side of the buckle has a ladder lock, also known as a ladder lock. The straps are threaded through the openings and locked by friction when loaded. The length can then be adjusted from both sides.
The design is particularly suitable for wide hip belts and strap systems where the buckle can be centered and both strap ends can be used to adjust the fit.
The Sea To Summit 50mm Side Release Field Repair Buckle is intended for free and adjustable strap ends. It cannot be mounted directly into a sewn-in strap loop.
This model: Two step locks, no pins and adjustment on both sides.
1-Pin Side Release: A detachable pin for a fixed strap loop and a step lock for an adjustable strap.
2-Pin Side Release: Two removable pins for fixed strap loops on both sides and no length adjustment.
Please check your existing strap construction before ordering. If both sides consist of sewn-on loops, you will need a 50mm 2 Pin Side Release instead.
The size specification 50 mm refers to the width of the strap – not the total outer dimensions of the buckle. Measure the strap flat and check that it can be threaded through the buckle's step lock.
The buckle can be used with compatible equipment from multiple manufacturers, but the fit is not universal. The width, thickness and weave of the strap affect how securely the step lock holds.

Remove the broken buckle and check that both strap ends are intact. Thread each strap through the step lock on each side. Follow the same strap routing as on the original buckle, leaving a sufficient length of strap end free.
Tighten the straps and apply gentle pressure to the buckle to ensure that they do not slip. Also check that the buckle parts click together properly and that the side flaps return to their original position after opening.
If the straps are sewn into closed loops, this model cannot be installed without changing the stitching. In this case, choose a 1-Pin or 2-Pin model depending on the design of the equipment.
The buckle is intended for compatible straps on bags, backpacks, and outdoor equipment. It is not certified for climbing, personal belaying, or other uses where a failure could cause a fall or serious personal injury.
Rinse the buckle with clean water if it has been exposed to sand, dirt or salt water. Replace it if the plastic is cracked, badly worn or no longer locks properly.
