The Sea To Summit 50mm 2 Pin Side Release is a heavy duty repair buckle to replace a broken or worn out quick release buckle on, for example, a larger drybag or a backpack release belt. The two removable pins allow both parts of the buckle to be mounted in existing, sewn-on strap loops without the need to split and re-sew the straps.
Designed for 50mm wide straps, weighing approximately 43.5 grams and installed with a standard Phillips screwdriver, the buckle is the largest size in Sea to Summit's line of two-pin Side Release repair buckles.
The designation 2 Pin means that both the male and female parts of the buckle have a removable stainless steel pin. The design is suitable when the original buckle is in a sewn-in strap loop on both sides.
The pins are unscrewed, the buckle parts are placed in the respective strap eyelets and the screws are then refitted. This provides a durable repair without the need to change the existing seam.
This 2-Pin model is intended as a direct replacement for non-adjustable buckles. It fits, for example, some roll closures on larger drybags and fixed buckles on wide backpack straps or hip belts.
The buckle does not have a step lock and therefore cannot be used to adjust the length of the strap. If one side consists of a loose strap that can be tightened or released, an adjustable buckle type with a step lock is needed.
The size specification 50 mm refers to the width of the strap or strap eyelet – not the total outer dimensions of the buckle. Measure the strap flat before ordering.
The buckle is not universal. Also check that the equipment has a fixed strap loop on both sides and that the outer dimensions of the buckle work with the existing structure. The complete buckle measures approximately 6.3 × 1.8 × 7.5 centimeters.

Remove the broken buckle without damaging the strap loops or stitching. Unscrew the stainless steel pins from both parts of the new buckle with a Phillips screwdriver.
Place each buckle part into the existing strap eyelet, replace the pins and tighten the screws securely. Do not tighten more than necessary. Then check that the buckle opens and closes correctly and that both pins are securely in place.
Check the straps and stitching at the same time. A new buckle will not fix a damaged strap or a stitching that is coming loose.
The buckle is intended for repair of compatible outdoor equipment and is not certified for climbing, personal belaying, or other uses where a failure could cause a fall or serious personal injury.
Rinse the buckle in clean water if it has been exposed to sand, dirt or salt water. Let it dry and check regularly that the pins are tight and that the plastic is not cracked.
