The Ortovox CLASP Spine Protector is a lightweight and flexible back protector that provides extra protection for the central part of the spine when skiing, freeriding and mountain biking. The protector is placed in the special protector compartment of compatible Ortovox backpacks and weighs only about 200 grams.
The viscoelastic SAS-TEC foam is soft and flexible during normal movement. In the event of a quick and powerful impact, the material immediately becomes firmer to absorb and distribute the impact energy. The result is a flexible back protector that does not require a separate protective vest.
CLASP Spine Protector is made of SAS-TEC SC-1/B52 foam and certified according to the EN 1621-2:2014 standard for back protection. The material compresses softly under slow loads but reacts differently in the event of a hard fall, as the foam's microstructure quickly stiffens and provides shock absorption.
Triple Flex Elements® allows the protector to bend in multiple directions, so it follows the movements of the back and affects mobility significantly less than a rigid protector plate.
The construction is designed to withstand multiple impacts. However, the protection should always be checked after a heavy fall and replaced if the material shows signs of damage, cracks or permanent deformation.
The protector simply slides into the designated inner compartment closest to your back. When properly fitted, it is held in place by the backpack and follows the body's movements without the need for additional shoulder straps or a waist belt.
The Ortovox CLASP Spine Protector is intended for Ortovox freeride backpacks that explicitly have a protector pocket or are listed as compatible with the CLASP Spine Protector. This includes compatible models in the following series:

Always check the information for your exact backpack model before purchasing. The protector is not universal and will not fit Ortovox backpacks that do not have the dedicated protector compartment. For example, the Ortovox AVABAG LiTRIC Zero 27 is not listed as compatible with the CLASP Spine Protector.

CLASP Spine Protector comes in One Size and is certified for users with a body length of up to 200 cm. The protector is approximately 40 cm long, 15 cm wide and 0.9 cm thick.
The backpack's back length and fit must still be properly adjusted to the user. A back protector works best when the backpack sits close to the body and cannot be displaced in the event of a fall.

Remove the back protector before washing the backpack. Hand-clean the protector separately according to the manufacturer's instructions and allow it to air dry completely. Avoid machine washing, harsh detergents, solvents and direct heat.
Check the protector before each use and after any heavy falls. Do not use if it is cracked, damaged or permanently deformed.
A back protector can reduce the strain on the back during certain types of impacts, but cannot prevent all injuries and does not guarantee protection against fractures or injuries to the spine and spinal cord.
