The Altra Torin 9 Men's is a neutral running shoe for those who want soft comfort during daily runs without the shoe feeling unstable or spongy. The model is primarily developed for road running and walking and works equally well during leisurely distance runs as for everyday use and longer days on hard surfaces.

The biggest innovation in the Torin 9 is the dual-density P35X™ midsole. The foam is firmer on the outside and softer on the inside, designed to combine cushioning with a more stable feel through the stride.

The outsole has been updated to Vibram® XS DURA , a durable rubber that provides traction on asphalt and other hard surfaces. Altra says the new outsole provides 8.5 percent more grip than the outsole on the Torin 8.

The Torin 9 features Altra's Standard FootShape™ fit . It provides plenty of room for your toes but is more snug through the midfoot than Altra's roomier Original FootShape models, such as the Lone Peak.

With a weight of approximately 269 grams , neutral support and moderate cushioning, the Torin 9 is a versatile option for runners who want to use the same shoe for a large part of their weekly training.

P35X™ dual density midsole

The Torin 9 uses a new dual-density P35X™ foam, which is firmer on the outside of the shoe and softer on the inside.

The aim is to combine:

Soft comfort

More stable landings

Balanced damping

Controlled feel on asphalt

Sufficient response for daily running

Altra describes the result as a combination of softness, stability and balanced performance.

The shoe is not a pronounced stability shoe with traditional pronation support. It is classified as neutral, but the firmer outer part of the midsole and the wide base platform are designed to provide a stable feel.

Vibram® XS DURA outsole

The new Vibram XS DURA outsole is designed for durability and road grip. According to Altra, it provides 8.5 percent better grip than the Torin 8.

The outsole is particularly suitable for:

Dry asphalt

Wet city streets

Pedestrian and bicycle paths

Treadmill

Hard-packed park surface

Easier gravel roads

Everyday use

The Torin 9 is not a trail shoe, however. For trails, mud, loose rocks, or technical mountain terrain, a trail shoe with deeper studs and more protection is a better choice.

0 mm drop

The Torin 9 has a 0mm drop , meaning the shoe has no intentional height difference between the heel and forefoot. Altra describes its Zero-to-Low Drop platform as being designed to place the foot in a more natural position.

If you are used to running shoes with a higher drop, 0 mm may mean a change in load on the foot, calf and Achilles tendon, among other things. Altra recommends that the transition be adapted to previous shoes, mobility and any injury history.

A cautious approach could be to:

Start with walks or short, leisurely workouts.

Alternate the Torin 9 with your previous running shoes.

Increase the distance gradually.

Expect fast intervals and the longest session of the week.

Reduce the load if you experience persistent discomfort.

Runners who already use shoes with 0–4 mm drop usually need less adjustment than runners who come directly from shoes with a clearly raised heel.

Standard FootShape™ fit

The Torin 9 uses the Standard FootShape™ , which is Altra's balanced fit between Slim and Original.

The fit offers:

Plenty of room for your toes

Foot-shaped forefoot

More room than traditional pointed running shoes

Wrapping feeling through the midfoot

More stable fit than Altra's roomiest Original models

The Torin 9 is in the Standard FootShape category.

The Standard FootShape fits many normal and slightly wider feet. Runners with very wide forefoot or high foot volume may still need a special Wide version.

Updated upper and heel

The Torin 9 has a breathable mesh upper and several fine-tuned details compared to its predecessor.

Altra particularly highlights:

Updated heel shape

Higher and improved tongue

Breathable mesh

Softer entry feeling

More elaborate details around the foot

The changes are designed to provide a comfortable step-in and a more secure feel around the heel and midfoot.

The upper is not waterproof. The mesh material prioritizes ventilation and comfort over protection against rain and water.

Let the shoes air dry at room temperature.

Avoid radiators, drying cabinets and direct strong heat.

Do not wash the shoes in a washing machine.

Keep them dry and ventilated.

Check the outsole, upper and adhesive joints regularly.
