The Sea To Summit Ether Light XR Insulated Air Sleeping Mat - Large is a spacious, insulated and extra thick sleeping mat for hiking, thru-hiking and bikepacking. The Large version measures 198 × 64 centimeters and is suitable for taller users and those who want more room to move than the Small and Regular models.
Despite the generous sleeping surface, the base only weighs around 605 grams. The 10 centimeter thick Air Sprung Cell construction provides plenty of space between the body and the ground and creates a stable, flexible sleeping surface for different sleeping positions.
ThermalCore insulation gives the sleeping pad an ASTM-tested R-value of 4.1, making Ether Light XR suitable for spring, summer, and fall, as well as cooler nights when ground frost may occur.
The R-value indicates how effectively the underlayment prevents heat loss to the ground. Actual sleeping comfort is also affected by sleeping bag, clothing, wind, humidity, ground temperature and individual cold tolerance.
For winter trips and severe cold, the base should be supplemented with a foam base or replaced with a model with a higher R-value. Ether Light XR Pro is the warmer option in the series for more demanding winter conditions.
ThermalCore consists of a suspended, heat-reflecting TRM layer inside the sleeping pad. The material reflects back some of the body heat and limits air movement inside the structure.
The reflective material is softer and quieter than traditional insulation films. The construction therefore provides a good balance between insulation, weight and packing volume without the sleeping pad becoming unnecessarily noisy.
The Air Sprung Cell™ construction consists of many interconnected air cells that act much like individual springs. The cells adapt to the body and distribute pressure across the sleeping surface.
The generous thickness is especially appreciated by side sleepers, as it reduces the risk of hips and shoulders being pressed down onto the ground. The firmness can be easily adjusted by releasing small amounts of air via the XPRESS valve.
The Large version offers a 198 cm long and 64 cm wide lying surface. It is suitable for users with a body length of up to around 198 cm and provides more space around the shoulders, arms and legs than the 55 cm wide Regular model.
The base has a tapered shape that reduces weight and takes up less space in the tent than the corresponding rectangular model. For those who want maximum width even at the legs, the Ether Light XR Large Rectangular is available as a separate option.
The storage bag also functions as an Airstream™ pump bag. It is filled with air and connected to the valve, allowing the mat to be inflated with just a few pumps. This method also reduces the amount of moisture from exhaled air that ends up inside the mat.
The XPRESS valve provides high air flow and has separate functions for inflation, fine-tuning and rapid deflation. When the valve is fully opened, air is quickly released before rolling up.
The outer fabric is made of lightweight and durable 30D/40D nylon with TPU lamination. Reinforced welds contribute to better durability and an airtight construction.
Included PillowLock™ attachment points can be placed on the sleeping pad to hold a compatible Sea to Summit Aeros pillow in place. Pillow not included.

Unroll the sleeping pad and open the XPRESS valve to the inflation position. Connect the storage bag's integrated pump bag and inflate the pad until it is relatively firm. Then lie down on the pad and use the valve's fine adjustment to release air until you get the support you want.
Check the ground and remove rocks, branches and other sharp objects before laying out the ground. A footprint or thin protective ground can reduce wear when used outside the tent.
Wipe the sleeping pad with a soft cloth, lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Do not machine wash or tumble dry the pad.
Allow the base and its interior to dry thoroughly before long-term storage, especially if it has been inflated by mouth. Store dry with the valve open and avoid sharp objects, open flames, strong heat and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
