Hestra Njord 5-finger is a robust outdoor glove in impregnated goatskin with a removable, knitted merino wool lining. The size should be selected and tried on with the original lining fitted, although the outer glove can also be used separately in milder conditions.
| Hestra size | Hand circumference |
|---|---|
| 6 | approximately 152 mm |
| 7 | approximately 178 mm |
| 8 | approximately 203 mm |
| 9 | approximately 229 mm |
| 10 | approximately 254 mm |
| 11 | approximately 279 mm |
The measurements are approximate. Measure both hands and choose the size based on the larger hand.
If you don't have a soft tape measure, you can use a string and then measure the length of the string with a ruler.
Try the glove on with the included wool lining in place. The fit should be snug but not tight. There needs to be some air around the hand and in front of the fingertips for the lining to insulate effectively.
Your fingers should fit snugly into the glove's fingers without pressing against the ends. You should be able to clench your hand, grip equipment, and bend all of your fingers without the lining tightening over your knuckles.
Njord has a relatively sturdy construction. A certain amount of roominess is therefore normal and needed for the knitted lining to function as intended.
Normally, choose the larger size, especially if you mainly use the glove with the included wool lining. A size that is too small can compress the lining, restrict blood circulation and make your hand colder.
The leather softens and shapes with use, but don't choose a glove that is clearly too tight in the hope that it will stretch several sizes.
When the wool lining is removed, the fit becomes looser. This is normal and allows the outer glove to be used separately on warmer days or combined with another compatible Hestra lining.
Don't choose a smaller size just because the outer glove will fit snugly without lining. The size should primarily work together with the original lining.
If you change to a thicker or thinner liner, the entire combination needs to be retested. A thicker liner reduces the space for the hand and can affect circulation.
The right size means that:
Njord has impregnated goatskin and water-repellent material, but Hestra does not classify the glove as waterproof. The model lacks a waterproof membrane and is therefore not intended to keep the hand dry during prolonged wetness.
Remove and dry the lining separately after use. Treat the leather regularly with a suitable leather conditioner to maintain its suppleness and water-repellent properties.
