Gels are often used when it is not possible to eat a bar (due to high heart rate, for example), such as during activities such as running. They can also be used during hockey, for example during breaks or substitution periods. When cycling, gels are often used at the end of a tough workout or during periods when the heart rate is elevated, such as when climbing a mountain.

Recommended use: Take a maximum of 1-2 caffeine gels per hour of effort. Usage depends on the individual's carbohydrate needs.
