The Altra Men's Olympus 7 is a maximum cushioned trail shoe for long runs, ultras, hiking and all-day trail runs. The combination of a soft Altra EGO™ MAX midsole and Vibram® Megagrip outsole with TractionLug™ provides high comfort and reliable grip on varied terrain.

The Olympus 7 features Altra's roomy Original FootShape™ Fit, 0mm drop, and 33mm sole height. The result is a well-cushioned trail shoe with plenty of toe room and a balanced heel-to-forefoot position.

Softer and lighter EGO™ MAX cushioning

The updated Altra EGO™ MAX midsole is 15 percent lighter and 10 percent softer than the previous version, according to Altra. The cushioning is designed to provide a soft and comfortable feel over longer distances without the shoe feeling unnecessarily heavy.

The Olympus 7 is therefore particularly well suited for ultra running, long training sessions and hikes where comfort over many hours is more important than maximum ground contact.

Vibram® Megagrip with TractionLug™

The Vibram® Megagrip outsole provides durable grip on both wet and dry surfaces. The TractionLug™ construction improves the sole's contact and stability with the ground, making the shoe suitable for trails, rocks, gravel and technical terrain.

Original FootShape™ and 0 mm drop

Original FootShape™ Fit is Altra's roomiest fit with extra room in the toe box and through the midfoot, allowing your toes to spread naturally while the shoe keeps your foot in place during your run.

The heel and forefoot are placed at the same height thanks to Altra's 0mm drop. If you have not previously run in shoes without a height difference, it may be wise to increase your use gradually.

Comfortable and protective upper

The breathable technical mesh upper combines with molded TPU reinforcements for added durability and protection. A softer tongue and integrated comfort collar provide a snug feel around the foot and ankle.

On the heel is the Altra GaiterTrap™, which allows you to attach compatible gaiters without installing straps under the shoe.

Size and fit

The Olympus 7 features Altra's Original FootShape™ Fit, which means a roomy toe box and more room through the midfoot. Altra recommends measuring your foot length, adding about 0.5 cm, and comparing the result to the brand's sizing chart.

The Altra Men's Olympus 7 is, according to early tests , a normal length . Most people can therefore choose their usual size in Altra or other running shoes.

Featuring Altra's roomiest Original FootShape , with plenty of room for the toes and extra room through the midfoot, the Olympus 7 is therefore particularly suitable for wide and bulky feet, but can feel quite roomy on very narrow feet.

How is the Altra Olympus 7 sized?

The Olympus 7 has a very wide and rounded toe box that allows your toes to spread out naturally. The extra space may initially make the shoe feel too big for someone used to traditionally tapered running shoes, so don't judge size based solely on the width of the toe box.

Early tests describe the model as normal in length with a secure fit around the midfoot and heel. Since the Olympus 7 is a new model, feedback from long-term users is still limited.

Our size recommendation

First of all, choose your usual Altra or running shoe size. Olympus 7 does not normally need to be purchased larger.

Choose a half US size larger if you:

• is between two sizes
• falls in the upper part of the measurement range
• should use the shoe during long ultra or mountain runs
• want extra space for swollen feet
• wear thicker socks
• tends to hit their toes during long downhill runs

Don't go down a size just because the toe box feels wide. Check the length is correct and adjust the lacing if you need better fixation.

If you have very narrow or low-volume feet, the Olympus 7 may feel unnecessarily roomy. Heel locking can improve the fit, but the model is primarily designed for runners and walkers who appreciate plenty of space.

If you are switching from Altra Olympus 6

Olympus 6 is experienced by many as about half a size short, while others use their regular size. The heavy heel padding can also affect how far forward the foot ends up in the shoe.

The Olympus 7 has an updated comfort collar and is described in early tests as being normal in length, so you don't automatically need to size up as you would in the Olympus 6.

Start with your regular Altra size and only go up half a size if you are in between sizes or need extra room for long distances.

If you are switching from Altra Lone Peak

Both the Olympus 7 and Lone Peak use the Original FootShape, so your regular Lone Peak size is a good first choice in the Olympus 7 as well.

The Olympus 7 has more cushioning, more overall volume, and a taller construction, so it can feel more spacious and less precise, even when the length is the same.

If you are switching from Olympus 275 or 275 HiLo

The Olympus 7 has a softer, more traditional mesh upper. The Olympus 275 models use a more structured Matryx upper that provides a more secure fit.

You can usually start with the same size, but the Olympus 7 may feel more flexible and bulky around the forefoot. Do not go down a size if it puts your toes too close to the forefoot.

How to measure your foot

1. Place a piece of paper on a hard floor with one edge against a wall.
2. Stand on the paper with your heel lightly against the wall.
3. Mark where the longest toe ends.
4. Measure both feet and start from the longest one.
5. Add 0.5 cm and compare the result with the table.
6. If you are between two sizes, you normally choose the larger size.

Try the shoe on with the socks you plan to wear. The heel and midfoot should be stable while the toes should be able to move without touching the front edge. It is a good idea to check the fit on downhill runs before using the shoe on a longer run.
