The Sea To Summit Spark Down Sleeping Bag −1°C Long is an ultra-light and compressible down sleeping bag for taller users. With a recommended body length of up to 198 centimeters, it is suitable for hiking, mountaineering, fastpacking and bikepacking where low weight and small pack volume are prioritized.
The Long model weighs only about 536 grams, contains 305 grams of goose down and compresses to about 5.1 liters. The temperature rating is tested according to ISO 23537 with a comfort temperature of +4 °C and a lower temperature limit of −1 °C.
The extra length makes the model suitable for users who are too tall for the Regular version, which is recommended for body heights up to approximately 185 centimeters.
A sleeping bag should be long enough to allow you to lie comfortably without compressing the down in the foot box. At the same time, it should not be unnecessarily large, as extra space means more air for the body to warm up. Long is therefore recommended especially for people over about 185 centimeters and up to 198 centimeters.
The insulation consists of RDS-certified goose down with 850+ fillpower and a blend of 90% down and 10% feathers. The high fillpower means that the down creates a large insulating volume in relation to its weight.
The down features Sea to Summit's non-PFAS Ultra-Dry Down treatment. The water-repellent treatment means the down absorbs less moisture and dries faster than untreated down, helping it maintain its insulating loft in humid conditions.
RDS certification includes traceability and requirements for responsible handling of the birds throughout the supply chain.
The Spark −1°C uses box-shaped down channels across the torso and sewn-through channels in the leg area. The box construction reduces the risk of cold spots around the upper body, where the need for insulation is typically greatest.
The stitched-through construction around the legs requires less fabric and keeps both weight and pack volume down. The combination results in a weight-optimized sleeping bag with more advanced insulation construction where it is most useful.
The temperature −1 °C in the product name refers to the sleeping bag's ISO-tested lower temperature limit, also called the lower limit. The comfort temperature is +4 °C.
The comfort temperature indicates the temperature at which a standardized female test subject is expected to be able to sleep comfortably. The lower limit indicates the lower temperature at which a standardized male test subject is expected to be able to sleep without waking up from the cold.
The temperature specifications should be seen as a guide. Individual cold tolerance, wind, humidity, clothing, energy level and the insulating capacity of the sleeping pad affect how warm the sleeping bag feels. Frozen users should primarily base their comfort temperature on +4 °C and choose a warmer sleeping bag if colder nights are expected.
Both the outer fabric and lining are made of thin 10D nylon. The inner material is soft and breathable, while the outer fabric has a non-PFAS water-repellent treatment.
The hood and foot box are made with extra water-repellent material to better resist condensation from the tent fabric, for example. However, the sleeping bag is not waterproof and needs to be protected from rain and other direct moisture.
The technical hood, insulating zip cover and anatomical foot box help retain body heat. The ergonomic mummy shape reduces the amount of air the body needs to warm up and contributes to the low overall weight.
The Spark −1 °C Long has a half-length YKK #5 zipper. The shorter design saves weight and reduces heat loss compared to a full-length zipper.
A special zipper plow moves the thin fabric out of the way when the zipper is used and reduces the risk of the material getting caught.
The half-length zipper means that the sleeping bag cannot be fully opened and used as a flat blanket, nor can it be connected to another sleeping bag.

Air out your sleeping bag after each trip and allow it to dry completely before packing it away. For longer storage, it should be stored loosely in a large storage bag or hung in an airy manner. Do not store it permanently in the compression bag, as prolonged compression can reduce the loft of the down.
Wash your sleeping bag only when necessary and always follow the instructions on the product's care label. Use a special down detergent and avoid fabric softener. Tumble dry gently on a low temperature until the down is completely dry, spreading out any clumps of down as you dry.
The compression bag is not intended as waterproof protection. If there is a risk of rain or wetness, the sleeping bag should be packed in a separate waterproof bag.
