The Ortovox Free Rider 28 is a body-hugging freeride backpack for long days off the piste and demanding summit tours. The 28-liter volume provides space for extra clothes, food, fluids and technical equipment, while the compact shape keeps the pack close to the body during the ride.

The separate security compartment keeps your shovel and probe organized and quickly accessible. The main compartment can be opened from both the front and the back panel, so you can access your gear even when skis or snowboard are mounted on the backpack.

Body-hugging CLASP back system

The flat and elastic CLASP FLEX BELT follows the body's movements and helps keep the pack stable during technical skiing. Soft back pads mold to the back without restricting the spine's natural movement.

Integrated compression straps on the sides can be tightened to reduce bulk and bring the pack closer to your body, providing better balance and reducing the risk of contents shifting when riding fast or over rough terrain.

Prepared for CLASP Spine Protector

On the inside there is a separate compartment for the Ortovox CLASP Spine Protector. The optional back protector slides into the compartment and makes it possible to combine backpack and back protector without a separate protective vest.

CLASP Spine Protector is sold separately and is not included with the backpack.

Separate compartment for avalanche equipment

The shovel and probe are stored in a separate security compartment with dedicated holders. The equipment is kept separate from the rest of the pack and can be retrieved quickly in an emergency.

The Ortovox Free Rider 28 also has a valuables compartment with key clip, integrated helmet net, signal whistle on the chest strap and Ortovox Emergency Card.

Flexible mounts for winter equipment

The backpack has both diagonal and side-mounted ski mounts. A snowboard or snowshoe can be attached to the side, while two ice axes, poles and ropes have their own attachment points.

When not in use, the attachments can be stored close to the backpack, reducing the risk of straps getting caught on branches, rocks or other equipment.

Care instructions

Empty all compartments after use and brush off snow and dirt. Clean the backpack by hand with lukewarm water, a soft cloth and, if necessary, a mild detergent. Do not machine wash or tumble dry the backpack.

Allow it to air dry completely with the compartments open, away from direct sunlight and strong heat sources. Regularly check straps, buckles, zippers and equipment attachments.
