Lifesystems Fire Steel XL is a durable ferrocerium steel for starting a fire or lighting a compatible outdoor stove. The larger XL rod is designed for long life and produces powerful sparks in varying weather conditions and at different altitudes.

The sparks reach temperatures of up to 2,980°C and can ignite dry, fibrous kindling. The fire steel comes with a stainless steel scraper and is designed for around 10,000 strokes.

Larger ferrocerium rod with long life

The XL model has a larger ferrocerium rod than the smaller versions in the Lifesystems range, providing a solid grip and a wide range of uses, making it suitable for camping, hiking, bushcraft and emergency equipment.

The fire steel does not need batteries or fuel to create sparks and therefore serves as a practical complement to matches and lighters.

For different weather conditions and altitudes

The ferrocerium rod is designed to create sparks in a variety of weather conditions and at both low and high altitudes. For best results, use dry, finely divided ignition material that easily catches the sparks.

The fire steel creates sparks but does not contain its own ignition material, so always prepare dry tinder or equivalent before you start.

Only use the fire steel in a place where fire is permitted and safe. Always check current fire bans, keep away from flammable objects and extinguish the fire completely after use. Follow the stove manufacturer's instructions if the fire steel is used to light a gas stove.
