Åsnes X-Skin Mix is an all-round short skin developed for skiers who want a perfect balance between glide, grip and durability . With a well-thought-out material mix of 65% mohair and 35% nylon, it combines the light and efficient glide of mohair with the robust durability of nylon.
The short skin is made to the same high quality as Colltex's most popular climbing skins , ensuring reliable performance in a wide range of snow and temperature conditions. This makes the X-Skin Mix an excellent choice for everything from day trips in the mountains to longer expeditions where changing terrain is the norm.
It works optimally together with Åsnes Skinlock system , which makes assembly quick, safe and completely tool-free – perfect when the terrain quickly changes between flat and steep.
All-round shell for most snow and weather conditions
Excellent balance between glide (mohair) and durability (nylon)
Made in Colltex quality
Stable mount without compromising on efficient walking
Quick assembly via Åsnes Skinlock system
Free from PFOA/PFC (fluorocarbons) – a more environmentally conscious choice
The Kortfellen comes with SKIN PROTECTOR , which:
Protects against wear at the leading edge
Prevents ice and snow build-up
Ensures that the trap sits securely on the ski
For those who want skin that works in almost all conditions
In varying snow conditions: cold, damp or slightly transformed
For mountain trips where you want to minimize the number of skin options
Material: 65% mohair / 35% nylon
Weight: approx. 90–100 g / pair

The difference lies mainly in glide, grip, durability and which snow conditions they are best suited for :
Mohair provides the best glide and lowest friction
MIX is a balanced compromise between glide and durability
Nylon provides maximum grip and durability in tough conditions
The choice depends on temperature, snow type, terrain and riding style .
Choose mohair if you:
Riding in cold, dry and hard snow
Prioritizes glide and efficient movement
Want to preserve the ski's natural turning and riding feel
Travel longer distances with moderate inclines
Mohair is the fastest material but has slightly lower wear resistance than nylon.
Choose MIX (mohair/nylon) if you:
Rides in varying conditions
Want good grip but still good gliding ability
Looking for an all-round solution for mountain trips
Wants longer life than mohair but better glide than nylon
MIX traps are often the most versatile choice for most skiers.
Choose nylon if you:
Driving in wet, heavy or icy snow
Walks a lot on steep terrain
Prioritizes maximum grip and durability
Go on expeditions, sledding or heavy packing
Nylon provides the best grip but has poorer glide than mohair and MIX.
Cold and dry before: Mohair
Changing mountain conditions: MIX
Wet, steep or heavy load: Nylon
Many experienced skiers use two sets of short skis and adjust according to the conditions of the day.
Yes. Åsnes non-wading skis are designed to work excellently together with X-Skin short skins . The combination gives:
Good basic grip from the base
Extra grip on steeper sections
Flexibility without the need for glue or wax
Mohair: Least impact – best glide
MIX: Moderate impact – balanced feeling
Nylon: Biggest impact – more obvious friction
That's why mohair is often the first choice for long, flat rides.
Yes, regardless of material. Impregnation:
Improves glide
Reduces ice formation
Extends lifespan
Extra important for nylon and MIX in wet snow.
