Hestra Gauntlet Sr. Mitt is a longer glove developed for skiing and snowboarding on cold winter days. The upper part is made of durable, wind and waterproof polyamide that protects against the elements, while the polyurethane palm provides a secure grip on the poles. The glove has a removable fleece lining in soft, brushed polyester that is easy to wash and dry. The synthetic filling effectively insulates and wicks away moisture to keep your hands warm and dry.

Hestra Gauntlet Sr. Mitt is a long, insulated unisex mitten for skiing, snowboarding and cold winter days. The thumb construction allows the fingers to share heat, making the model warmer than a comparable five-finger glove.

The measurements refer to the hand, not the outer dimensions of the glove. Hestra's size chart is based on average hand proportions and should be used as a guide.

How to measure your hand

Hand circumference

Measure around the palm of your hand at its widest point, just below the knuckles. The thumb should not be included in the measurement. Hold the tape measure close to your hand without pulling it too tight.

Hand length

Measure from the crease of your wrist to the tip of your middle finger.

Measure both hands, starting with the larger one. Then compare the measurements with the table.

How is the Hestra Gauntlet Sr. Mid in size?

The Gauntlet Sr. Mitt follows Hestra's standard unisex sizing. The thumb construction is more forgiving of differences in individual finger length than a five-finger glove, but the overall length and circumference of the hand must still match.

The glove should fit snugly around the hand and wrist, while still allowing some insulating air around the fingers. A glove that is too tight compresses the lining and can restrict blood circulation, which reduces warmth.

If you are between two sizes

Hestra normally recommends the larger size when the hand is between two unisex sizes.

Choose the larger size if:

• the middle finger lies tightly against the front edge of the glove
• the glove tightens over the knuckles
• the lining compresses when you clench your hand
• you have a wide hand or thick knuckles
• you plan to use a very thin liner glove underneath

Don't automatically choose a larger size to get a warmer glove. Too much space can make your hand unstable, impair your pole grip, and cause the liner to move.

This is how the mitten should fit

The correct size should:

• leave a little air in front of the fingertips
• do not press over the palm or knuckles
• let your fingers move together in the lining
• keep the thumb in place without a large gap
• provide a stable grip around the ski pole
• sit securely around the wrist
• let the snow gaiter close over the jacket sleeve

When gripping a ski pole, the fingertips should not be pressed tightly against the front edge of the glove. Nor should the hand slide around inside the lining.

Same size as Gauntlet Sr. 5 Finger?

If you are already using the Gauntlet Sr. 5 Finger and the fit is good, the same numerical size is normally the right starting point in the Gauntlet Sr. Mitt.

You usually don't need to go up a size just because you're switching to the thumb version. The Gauntlet Sr. Mitt provides more warmth by having the fingers close together, not by having the glove be significantly larger.

If you use an extra liner

The Gauntlet Sr. Mitt comes with an insulated and removable fleece liner. A thin liner glove can be used if there is enough space, but it must not make the combination cramped.

If the liner restricts finger movement or compresses the lining, the result may be colder hands despite the extra layer.

Size of replacement food

The compatible replacement liner is the Hestra Gauntlet Fleece Liner Mitt. Normally choose the same size for the liner as for the outer glove.

Example: For Gauntlet Sr. Mitt in size 9, select Gauntlet Fleece Liner Mitt in size 9.

Important to know

The upper is wind and water repellent, but the glove lacks a fully waterproof membrane. The Gauntlet Sr. Mitt protects against snow and light rain, but is not intended for prolonged soaking conditions.
