The Ortovox Shovel Pro Rescue is a powerful and compact avalanche shovel developed for professional use, avalanche rescue and efficient work in snow. The extra large 720 cm² blade is combined with a long telescopic shaft and ergonomic D-handle for high capacity and efficient power transmission.
The shovel weighs approximately 740 grams and is certified according to the avalanche shovel standard UIAA 156. It is particularly suitable for ski patrols, guides, rescue personnel and users who prioritize maximum digging capacity.
The Shovel Pro Rescue has the largest shovel blade in Ortovox's current range. The blade's high side edges help to retain snow, while the stability ribs provide a rigid construction under load.
The flat shape and sharp, stable leading edge make it easier to work in hard-packed snow and compact avalanche debris. The design also works well for snow profiles, stability tests, bivouacs and igloo construction.
The large D-handle provides a stable grip and efficient power transfer during intensive digging. The handle has an oval profile that prevents twisting and a rubberized grip surface that provides safer handling with gloves.
The telescopic handle provides a maximum working length of approximately 91.5 centimeters and can be collapsed to approximately 47 centimeters for transport. An integrated steering and quick release coupling simplify assembly when time is short.
The blade can be mounted in a 90-degree clearing position. In this position, the shovel is used with a pick-like motion to pull snow away, which can save both time and effort when large amounts of snow need to be moved.
Four recesses in the anodized aluminum blade allow the shovel to also be included as a component when building a rescue sled with compatible equipment.

An avalanche shovel should always be part of a complete avalanche equipment set, along with an avalanche transmitter and probe. The equipment does not replace knowledge of avalanches, risk assessment, or regular training in buddy rescue.
Check the shovel blade, handle and locking mechanisms before each use. Practice assembling and using it with gloves so that you can handle it when time and work capacity are critical.
