The Silva Compass Expedition S is an advanced mirror compass for mountain hiking, expeditions and professional use. It is suitable for those who want to work accurately with a map and compass and need functions for both direction, distance measurement and assessment of the slope of the terrain.
Mirror aiming, adjustable magnetic declination and built-in clinometer combine with magnifying glass, map scales and luminescent markings. A detachable neck strap with measuring scales and a separate inclination card are included.
The mirror and sight hole allow you to check the compass needle while aiming the compass at a landmark. This makes it easier when taking bearings over longer distances, especially in open terrain.
The rotatable compass housing has a grip-friendly ring and works with the Silva 1-2-3 system to transfer a direction from the map to the terrain.
Expedition S has a built-in magnetic declination adjustment, also known as declination. You can set the compass to the local difference between true and magnetic north, making it easier to continue navigating in the area.
The clinometer is used to measure slope angles in the terrain. The included slope map also helps you estimate the slope of slopes based on the contour lines on the map.
The base plate has scales in millimeters and inches as well as map scales for, among others, 1:25,000 and 1:50,000. The built-in magnifying glass makes it easier to read small details on the map.
The silicone feet on the underside help the compass stay steady against the map. The soft neck strap also has measuring scales and can be laid along a winding route to estimate the length of the route.
Luminescent markings make it easy to read in the dark after being charged with daylight or a lamp. The waterproof design is suitable for outdoor use.
