The Exped Solo Tarp is an ultra-lightweight and versatile weather shelter for one or two people. It can be stretched over a hammock, pitched between trees, or built as a classic A-frame shelter with hiking poles or suitable branches.
The tarp measures 300 x 190 centimeters but weighs only about 330 grams. The durable 15D ripstop material has a silicone coating on the outside, a PU coating on the inside and taped seams. The result is a lightweight and compact shelter for hiking, bikepacking, hammock camping and minimalist overnight stays.
The Solo Tarp offers a great combination of protection, light weight and flexible set-up. The rectangular shape can be adjusted to suit terrain, wind direction and weather conditions.
When set up as an A-frame, the tarp provides a protected sleeping area of approximately 300 x 130 centimeters. This is enough for one person with generous space or two people with a more compact sleeping area.
The 300 x 190 cm format makes the Solo Tarp particularly useful as a rain cover over a hammock. It can be stretched along a rope between two trees and angled according to wind and precipitation.
Place the tarp lower and with steeper sides in case of rain and wind. In calm and warm conditions, it can be placed higher for better views, more air circulation and easier access to the hammock.
The Exped Solo Tarp can be adapted to the location and available anchor points. It can be used as:
Rain cover over a hammock
A-frame shelter for overnight stays on the ground
Angled wind and rain protection
Open roof over picnic area or cooking area
Simple sun protection on hot days
Temporary protection for equipment
Hiking poles, trees, branches or other suitable anchor points can be used for setup. Tent pegs and poles are not included.
The tarp is made of 15D ripstop nylon with a 2,500 mm water column. The silicone coating on the outside protects the nylon fabric and contributes to good durability in relation to its weight.
The inside has a PU coating that allows the seams to be taped. The taped seams reduce the risk of water penetrating through the stitching points.
The thin material is optimized for low weight and should be handled more carefully than EXPED's stronger Extreme and Versa tarps.
The Solo Tarp comes with eight lightweight and strong Dyneema storm ropes. The many ropes make it possible to tension the tarp evenly and adapt its shape to the ground and weather.
For best stability, the storm ropes should be anchored in different directions and re-tensioned if necessary. Always check that the ropes are not against sharp edges that could cause wear.

Place the lowest or most closed side of the tarp towards the expected wind direction. In case of rain, the tarp should be stretched with sufficient slope so that water can drain away without pooling in the material.
At the same time, leave openings for air circulation. A tarp is an open weather cover and does not provide the same protection against wind, insects and driving rain as a completely closed tent.
