the OMM Core Tent Sock – Ultralight thermal socks for tents & sleeping systems

See our entire range from the OMM here!

The OMM Core Tent Sock is an ultra-lightweight, packable fleece sock designed specifically for use in tents and sleeping systems in cold conditions. Featuring revolutionary PRIMALOFT® ACTIVE insulation, it delivers impressive warmth-to-weight ratio – perfect for mountaineering, fastpacking and expeditions where every gram counts.

The insulation blurs the line between traditional fleece and synthetic padding. Primaloft® ACTIVE loosely weaves insulation fibers through a fine mesh, providing down-like warmth when dry and reliable insulation even when damp . The result is significantly warmer than fleece – at less than half the weight.

The socks are designed for rest and sleep only , not for active use. The minimal seam construction reduces chafing and keeps weight down, while the PointZero nylon ripstop sole provides increased moisture resistance. A silicone logo on the sole provides better grip on tent floors and sleeping pads.

How are the OMM Core Socks sized?

Core Socks have an airy and relatively loose fit around the foot. They are designed for warmth and comfort during rest and sleep, not to provide support or a tight performance fit.

The PrimaLoft Active material has four-way stretch, but the opening can feel less elastic when the sock is pulled over the heel. Once the sock is on the foot, the fit is soft and roomy.

Our size recommendation

  • Choose your size according to your usual shoe size according to the table.
  • If you are close to the upper limit, we recommend the larger size.
  • Go up a size if you have wide feet, high ankles or want an extra roomy sleeping fit.
  • Don't choose a smaller size to get a tighter feel - the socks are meant to be airy.
  • If they are to be used for a short time in shoes at the tent, the shoes need to have enough space for the insulating material.

Example

  • EU 38: normally choose S, but M if you have wide feet or high ankles.
  • EU 42: normally choose M.
  • EU 43: choose L.
  • EU 45: normally choose L, but XL if you prefer extra room.
  • EU 46–48: choose XL.

User size perception

An experienced long-distance hiker describes the socks as loose around the foot and without the support you get from a regular hiking sock. The opening is also felt to be somewhat tight when pulled over the heel. Once in place, the socks are described as comfortable and spacious for sleeping.

This suggests choosing the larger size if you are close to a size limit or have a thicker heel and ankle.

Important about use

Core Socks are specifically designed for:

  • use in tents and sleeping systems
  • extra heat during the night
  • rest in camp, cabin or bivouac
  • shorter steps outside the tent

They are not intended for hiking, running or longer walks. The open insulation is more susceptible to wear and tear than the material in regular activity socks.

Check the fit

The sock should fit the foot without the opening pressing hard around the ankle. The toes should be able to move freely and the insulation should not be stretched too tight.

The fit is too small if the opening is difficult to pull over the heel or if the toes are pressed against the front edge. The sock is too big if it slips off during the night or if a lot of material folds under the foot.
