How to measure your hand

1. Use a soft measuring tape.
2. Measure around the palm where the hand is widest, just below the knuckles.
3. The thumb should not be included in the measurement.
4. Hold the measuring tape close to the skin without pulling.
5. Measure both hands and start from the larger one.
6. Compare the measurement with the size chart.

If you don't have a tape measure, you can use a string and then measure the string with a ruler.

How is the Hestra Leather Box Mitt sized?

The Leather Box Mitt follows Hestra's usual unisex sizes. The glove should fit snugly around the hand and wrist, but leave some air in front of the fingers. The air space helps the pile lining and insulation retain heat.

The impregnated goatskin softens and molds slightly with use. However, don't choose a size that is too small, expecting the glove to stretch a lot. A tight mitten can compress the lining, restrict blood circulation and make your hand colder.

If you are between two sizes

Hestra normally recommends the larger size when the hand measurements are between two unisex sizes. This is especially relevant for an insulated winter glove.

Choose the larger size if:

• the fingers lie against the front edge of the glove
• the lining compresses when you clench your hand
• the glove tightens over the knuckles
• you want to use a thin liner glove underneath
• you have wide hands or strong knuckles

Don't choose a larger size just for extra warmth. Too much void space can impair grip, control and mobility.

Check the length of the hand

Hestra primarily uses hand circumference to recommend size, but hand length also affects fit. Measure from the crease of the wrist to the tip of the middle finger if you have unusually long or short fingers.

If the circumference is correct but your fingers are pressing against the front edge, you should try a larger size. If there is a lot of space in front of your fingers, a smaller size may provide better control, provided the glove is not tight across the palm.

This is how the glove should fit

The correct size should:

• give some air in front of your fingers
• do not press over knuckles or palm
• allow you to tie your hand without the material tightening
• keep the thumb in place without a large gap
• sit securely around the wrist
• provide a secure grip on ski poles or other equipment

Always try on the glove with the removable liner in place. If you are going to use an additional liner, the glove should be tried on together with it.

Choice of size of replacement food

The Hestra Leather Box Mitt has a replaceable pile liner. When the liner needs to be replaced, you normally choose the same size for the new liner as the outer glove.

Example: For Leather Box Mitt in size 8, choose Pile Lining Mitt in size 8. A larger lining can be pleated or compressed inside the shell.

Important to know

The Leather Box Mitt is windproof, but lacks a waterproof membrane. The impregnated goatskin provides protection against light snow and wetness, but the glove is not intended to stay dry in prolonged wet conditions.
