Hestra Hydra Seam Sealed is an unlined shell mitten that is worn over a base glove or a removable Hestra liner. The model has a spacious cover construction and is only manufactured in sizes 7, 9 and 11.
The size should be chosen based on the glove or liner you plan to use under the shell mitten.
| Your usual Hestra size | Hand circumference | Choose Hydra Seam Sealed |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | approximately 152 mm | 7 |
| 7 | approximately 178 mm | 7 |
| 8 | approximately 203 mm | 9 |
| 9 | approximately 229 mm | 9 |
| 10 | approximately 254 mm | 11 |
| 11 | approximately 279 mm | 11 |
The model is not available in size 12. If you normally use Hestra 12, you should not automatically choose size 11, as the shell mitten may be too small over the basic glove.
Choose the same size if the base glove has an odd size number. If it has an even number, choose the next larger Hydra size:
Example: if you use Hestra size 8 in your basic glove, you should choose size 9 in Hydra Seam Sealed.
If you don't have a basic glove with a known Hestra size:
Measure both hands and start from the larger hand.
Hydra Seam Sealed should always be tried on over the layer you intend to use. A thin merino wool liner, a fleece glove and a heavy removable winter liner take up different amounts of space.
Do this:
The scalpel mitten should be easy to put on and take off without taking the base glove with you.
Hydra Seam Sealed is designed to be roomier than a regular glove. It needs room for the base glove and for the entire layer system to move without compressing the insulation.
The right fit means that:
Some extra volume in front of the fingers is normal in a cover mitten.
If your hand measurement is between two Hestra sizes, the larger basic size is normally recommended. Then translate that size to Hydra Seam Sealed.
Example: if you are between regular Hestra sizes 7 and 8, start with size 8 and choose Hydra Seam Sealed in size 9.
The size chart is a good starting point, but the thickness of the base glove affects the fit:
Don't choose a smaller glove just to get a tighter grip. If the layer system is compressed, warmth, mobility and circulation can be impaired.
Hydra Seam Sealed is a wind and water resistant shell with taped seams, but has no insulation of its own. Therefore, warmth is determined by the base glove or liner used underneath.
The high collar should be able to be pulled over the jacket sleeve, and the snow gaiter should be able to be closed without tightening around the wrist or forearm.
