The Montane Gecko VP 20+ is a next-generation running vest for ultra-distance and long-distance adventures , designed for runners who need to carry more without sacrificing stability or running feel . Weighing just 314 grams, it combines impressive packing capacity with Montane's legendary Gecko fit - built to stay glued to the body even at high speeds.
The new version builds on the bounce-free comfort of long-distance running , but has been upgraded with lighter BOUNCE CONTROL fabric that stretches with movement horizontally but limits vertical movement under load. The result is significantly reduced bounce even when the vest is fully packed – crucial during long races and technical terrain.
The Gecko VP 20+ features a refined carrying system with faster and easier harness closure , improved side compression and an updated pole carrying system that’s easy to use on the go. The roll-top closure increases both weather protection and load stability, while keeping the pack compact and close to the body.
With 2 x Montane 500ml soft flasks included , versatile stretch pockets at the front and bladder compartment for hydration bladder , this is a vest adapted for self-sufficient ultra races, mountain running and multi-day tours where reliability and comfort are absolutely crucial.
Triple ripstop construction with very high abrasion resistance and polyurethane composite coating that increases tear strength by approximately 50% , while keeping the weight low.
Recycled nylon in a plain weave with 4-way differential stretch , which allows expansion under load but actively minimizes bounce. Treated with PFAS-free water repellency .
Quick-drying material for all-day comfort, treated with POLYGIENE® permanent odor control for a fresh feeling even during hot ultra races.
Resists water absorption and dries extra quickly, ideal for long and sweaty workouts.

Ultra races, mountain running, self-sufficient competitions and long mountain adventures – when you need maximum packing volume combined with the highest stability in running .
The Montane Gecko VP 20+ is a unisex running vest with 20 liters of storage capacity and a body-hugging fit. The vest's elastic material, adjustable chest straps and compression options help keep the pack stable during running and fastpacking.
The size is determined by your chest width – not by back length, body length or desired packing volume.
Measure your chest width and compare with the table below.
| Size | Chest width | Chest width in inches |
|---|---|---|
| S | 76–92 cm | 30–36" |
| M | 88.5–102 cm | 35–40" |
| L | 99.5–114.5 cm | 39–45" |
The size ranges overlap because the vest's elastic construction and adjustable straps provide some adjustment room.
Measure around the widest part of your chest with your arms relaxed. Keep the tape measure horizontal and close to your body without pulling.
Measure over the sweater and jacket you normally plan to wear under the vest. If the Gecko VP 20+ will be used in cold conditions or on multi-day trips, you should also measure over your most common outer layers.
Choose a size where your chest measurement is within the range and preferably not right at the outer limit.
If you are between two sizes:
For women, bust shape can affect fit. The larger size is often more comfortable if the chest straps otherwise need to be used near their outermost position.
Try the vest with the equipment, food and fluids you normally plan to carry. An empty 20-liter vest may feel different than a fully loaded vest.
The vest should:
Tighten the side compression to keep the pack close to your back. If the vest still moves when all straps are tightened tightly, the size is probably too large. If the shoulder straps cut into it or the chest straps have to be used close to their outermost position, the size may be too small.
