The Altra Olympus 275 HiLo for women is designed for runners who want plenty of cushioning and protection without compromising on grip and stability on technical terrain.

The soft Altra EGO™ MAX midsole provides a comfortable and protective feel during long runs. With 33 mm of material under both the heel and forefoot, you get solid shock absorption against rocks, roots and hard surfaces, while the 0 mm drop provides a consistent position from heel to toe.

The woven MATRYX® upper is reinforced to withstand the wear and tear of technical trails and long days outdoors. The construction provides a stable grip around the foot, while the integrated protection around the opening helps keep out gravel and pebbles.

Underneath the shoe is Vibram® Megagrip with TractionLug™ , which provides secure grip on both wet and dry surfaces. The shoe works especially well on rocky mountain trails, forest paths, packed soil, roots and mixed technical trails.

Altra's Original FootShape™ provides plenty of room for your toes and allows your forefoot to work naturally. The roomy fit is especially appreciated during long runs and ultras, when feet often swell.

Fit and size advice

The Olympus 275 HiLo features Altra's spacious Original FootShape™ , with extra room for your toes and an anatomically shaped forefoot.

For running and longer distances, we recommend that you have about 0.5 cm extra space in front of the longest toe. Measure both feet and start from the longest one.

The shoe has a 0 mm drop. If you are used to shoes with a higher drop, you should get used to the model gradually by starting with shorter and calmer sessions.

Care instructions

Brush off dry mud and dirt after use. Rinse with lukewarm water if necessary and let the shoes air dry at room temperature. Avoid washing machines, tumble dryers and direct heat, as this can damage the material and adhesives.

Important to consider

The shoe is not waterproof. The high cushioning provides a lot of protection, but also less direct ground contact than in a lower trail shoe. In very deep mud, a model with longer and more sparse studs may provide better grip.

Always test the shoes during longer training sessions before using them during competition.

The Altra Women's Olympus 275 HiLo is generally regular in length and features Altra's roomy Original FootShape . The foot-shaped toe box gives your toes plenty of room, while the woven Matryx upper creates a more structured and enveloping fit around your foot.

Early user experience suggests that the toe box may feel slightly narrower than in the original Olympus 275, despite both models using the Original FootShape.

The Original FootShape is Altra's most spacious foot shape, with plenty of room for both the toes and through the midfoot. However, that doesn't mean the Olympus 275 HiLo is a traditional Wide model.

The Kevlar-reinforced Matryx upper is thin, durable, and less flexible than regular mesh. As a result, the shoe may feel more snug during the first few runs. Early user reviews indicate that the upper can soften and conform somewhat with use, but don't rely on a shoe that's clearly too narrow to stretch enough.

Our size recommendation

First, choose your usual Altra or running shoe size if your measurement is clearly within the size range and you have enough room in front of your toes.

Choose a half US size larger if you:

  • is between two sizes
  • falls in the upper part of the measurement range
  • have a very wide forefoot or high foot volume
  • will use the shoe during long ultra and mountain runs
  • want extra space for swollen feet
  • wear thicker socks
  • tends to hit their toes during long downhill runs

Don't go down a size just because the toe box feels roomy. The extra toe space is an intentional feature of the model. First, check that the length is sufficient and adjust the lacing if you need better fixation.

If you are switching from the original Olympus 275

You can normally start with the same size. Olympus 275 HiLo retains the Original FootShape but may, according to early user experience, feel slightly narrower at the little toe side.

If your original Olympus 275 already sits close to your foot, you should therefore compare your usual size with a half US size larger. However, if you have plenty of room in the older model, the same size should be a good first choice.

If you are switching from Altra Olympus 6

The Olympus 275 HiLo has a roomy toe box but a more technical and fixed Matryx upper. The fit around the midfoot and heel can therefore feel more secure than in the Olympus 6.

Since Olympus 6 is perceived by some as short, you should not automatically go up a size in the HiLo model. Measure your foot and use the chart as a guide. Choose a larger size only if you need more length or extra room for swelling.

How to measure your foot

  1. Place a piece of paper on a hard floor with one edge against a wall.
  2. Stand on the paper with your heel lightly against the wall.
  3. Mark where the longest toe ends.
  4. Measure both feet and start from the longest one.
  5. Add 0.5 cm and compare the result with the table.
  6. If you are between two sizes, you normally choose the larger size.

Try the shoe on with the socks you plan to wear. The heel and midfoot should be stable, while the toes should be able to move without touching the front edge or being squeezed together. It is a good idea to test the fit on downhill runs before using the shoe on a longer run.
