How is the Altra Olympus 6 sized?

Recurring perception
What it means
Normal in size
The standard Altra size works for many users.
A bit short in length
The toes can come close to the front edge even though the shoe feels spacious in width.
Half size larger
Often preferred for long distances, downhill running or if the foot is between two sizes.
Spacious toe box
Altra's Original FootShape provides plenty of room for your toes, but extra width doesn't replace proper length.

The padded heel counter can also cause the foot to be slightly forward for some runners, so make sure your toes don't hit the front edge when walking or running downhill.

Our size recommendation

Choose your usual Altra size if your comparison measurement clearly falls on a size in the chart and you have enough room in front of your toes.

Choose a half US size larger if:

  • you are between two sizes
  • the measurement is close to the upper limit of the size
  • you usually have contact between your toes and the front edge of the shoe
  • you wear thicker socks
  • you run long distances or want extra space when your feet swell
  • you should use the shoe on trails with a lot of downhill running

If you have narrow feet, the forefoot may feel very roomy. First, try adjusting the lacing for a better grip around the heel and midfoot. Avoid going down a size if it makes the shoe too short.

How to measure your feet

  1. Measure in the afternoon or evening, when feet are usually at their largest.
  2. Put on the socks you intend to use with the shoes.
  3. Place a piece of paper on a hard floor next to a wall.
  4. Place your heel against the wall and put normal weight on your foot.
  5. Mark where the longest toe ends.
  6. Measure the distance from the edge of the paper to the mark.
  7. Measure both feet and use the longer one.
  8. Add 0.5 cm and compare the result with the table.

Try the shoes on with the socks you plan to wear and check the fit both on flat ground and downhill. The heel should be stable while the toes should be able to move without hitting the front edge of the shoe.
