The VJ Icehero 2 M is a fast, agile and extremely grippy winter running shoe for men , developed for those who want to run safely and efficiently on ice, snow and hard winter surfaces. It suits both ambitious winter runners and those looking for a safe, responsive shoe for more relaxed workouts in cold conditions.

With carbon steel studs , a foot-shaped fit and VJ's new SuperFOAMance™ midsole , the Icehero 2 M delivers maximum control, comfort and running feel - even when the surface is at its most challenging.

SuperFOAMance™ – advanced cushioning and energy return

The Icehero 2 is VJ's first winter running shoe with SuperFOAMance™ , a nitrogen-infused supercritical foam that provides:

Extreme damping

High energy return

Lower weight than traditional EVA

Increased durability and lifespan

The result is a lighter, faster and more responsive shoe that maintains its performance even in the cold.

Protection and stability for technical winter terrain

The midsole is equipped with an integrated stone plate that protects the foot from ice edges, rocks and roots. At the same time, it increases torsional rigidity and contributes to better stability and energy efficiency in the running stride.

Maximum grip on ice and snow

The Superior Contact outsole features 17 star-shaped carbon steel studs (4 mm) for superior grip on icy and hard winter surfaces. Perfect for winter running, orienteering and fast runs in slippery conditions.

Lightweight, flexible and foot-shaped fit

One-piece knitted upper

Water-repellent, breathable and durable

Foot-shaped last (fit scale 4)

Smooth and responsive feel

For those of you who already run in VJ's off-road shoes, the Icehero 2 M can be described as MAXx2 - but with studs .

VJ's general size chart corresponds to a competition-like fit with only a couple of millimeters of extra space in front of the toes. IceHero 2 M is also generously sized, so please also consider the recommendations below.

How is the VJ IceHero 2 M sized?

The VJ IceHero 2 M is on the roomier side. The model has a width of 4 out of 5 on the VJ fit scale and a foot-shaped toe box that provides plenty of room for the forefoot.

The Fitlock system hugs the arch of the foot and helps keep the midfoot stable, allowing the model to offer good toe room without the entire shoe feeling loose.

The IceHero 2 M has a largely identical fit to the VJ MAXx2. Many people may therefore choose a size smaller than their usual running shoe size. One size is normally half a UK size and approximately 0.5–1 EU size.

User size perception

User reviews describe the model as spacious:

  • One user finds the size comparable to the MAXx2 and generally recommends one size smaller than the usual running shoe size.
  • The toe box is described as wide and foot-shaped with room for thicker wool socks.
  • The last feels wider than in older VJ Sarva models but not as wide as in the VJ ACE.
  • One user notes that the shoe is not as warm as the VJ ACE, which may make thicker socks appropriate on cold days.

Our size recommendation

  • With thin or regular running socks: start with one size smaller than your usual running shoe size.
  • With thick wool socks: your regular size may provide a better winter-friendly space.
  • If you have wide feet, you should first try your usual size.
  • If you have narrow feet or want a close competition fit, the smaller size is usually a better choice.
  • If you already use VJ MAXx2, you can normally choose the same size in IceHero 2 M.
  • If you are between two sizes, your choice should be guided by the thickness of the socks: choose the smaller one with thin socks and the larger one with thick winter socks.

How to measure your foot

  1. Put on the running or wool socks you plan to use.
  2. Place a piece of paper on the floor with one edge against a wall.
  3. Place your heel against the wall and put your entire body weight on the foot.
  4. Mark in front of the longest toe.
  5. Measure the distance from the wall to the mark.
  6. Repeat with the other foot, starting from the longest measurement.
  7. Compare the measurement with the table and take into account how thick the socks are to be used.

Check the fit

When the shoe is laced, the heel and midfoot should be stable without slipping. The toes should be able to move and not hit the front of the shoe when you run downhill.

The socks you use should be about 5–10 millimeters in front of the longest toe. Avoid a size that is too large, as this can cause the foot to move inside the shoe on uneven and slippery surfaces.
