Protect your sleeping bag's insulation in extreme cold

The Exped VBL Linerbag UL is an ultra-light vapor barrier liner (VBL) designed for cold and arctic conditions , where moisture management is essential for warmth and comfort. On longer trips in sub-zero temperatures, even the best down and synthetic sleeping bags can absorb moisture from the body. This moisture degrades the insulation and makes the sleeping bag heavier over time – something that the VBL Linerbag UL effectively prevents.

How the VBL principle works

As a thin layer between the body and the sleeping bag , the VBL Linerbag UL blocks water vapor from penetrating the sleeping bag's insulation . The result is that the down or fiberfill stays dry and maintains its loft and warmth, even for several days in severe cold. This also helps reduce the risk of chilling during the night and can provide a few extra degrees of warmth in the sleeping system.

Extremely lightweight and packable

With a weight of only about 125 grams and a very small packing volume, the VBL Linerbag UL easily fits in a backpack, even on minimalist tours. It is especially appreciated on expeditions, winter hikes and long trips , where the possibility of drying the sleeping bag is limited.

Extra safety – also as an emergency bivvy

Thanks to taped seams and vapor- and waterproof material, the VBL Linerbag UL can also be used as a waterproof emergency bivouac in unexpected situations. The integrated stuff sack makes it quick to pack away and can also function as an inner pocket for small items .

Comfort tips

For best comfort, it is recommended to use a base layer or a thin sleeping bag liner inside the VBL Linerbag UL, as the material is completely vapor-tight and does not allow moisture from the skin to pass through. This is standard practice when using vapor barrier systems in cold weather.
