The Topo Athletic Ultraventure 4 is a well-cushioned and comfort-focused trail shoe for men , developed for long runs on light to moderately demanding surfaces . The model is the fourth generation of Topo's popular Ultraventure series and combines high comfort, low weight and broad usability - perfect for those who run long distances and often on trails, gravel and trail-to-road.
The ZipFoam™ midsole offers a soft yet responsive feel , with a 35mm heel and 30mm forefoot stack height. This provides effective cushioning and protects your feet over many miles of running, while maintaining a stable and natural running feel. The shoe has a 5mm drop , which contributes to a balanced and relaxed stride.
The Vibram® XS Trek EVO outsole is optimized for multi-surface traction , making the Ultraventure 4 particularly suited to transitioning between trail, gravel and asphalt . The upper is made of recycled mesh with strategically placed PU reinforcements for added structure and durability in high-wear areas. The signature Topo fit with a spacious toe box provides natural toe spread, better balance and high comfort over time.

It's best to measure later in the day, when your feet are normally slightly larger.
For trail running, the insole should be about 5–10 mm longer than the foot . For long runs and ultra-distances, it’s wise to be closer to the upper end of the range as feet can swell.
Example: If your longest foot measures 27 cm, a 27.5 cm insole may be a good starting point. This corresponds to a US 9.5 and EU 43.
The Ultraventure 4 has Topo's signature fit:
The toe box should feel roomier than a traditional running shoe. This does not automatically mean that the shoe is too big. First, assess whether the midfoot and heel are stable and whether the foot slides forward when running downhill.
Topo Athletic Sweden generally recommends going half a US size larger than you usually wear. This is especially relevant if you:
If you already have a pair of Topo Athletic that fits well, the same US size is normally the best starting point.
The standard width Ultraventure 4 already has a roomy toe box, but the fit isn't as wide throughout the shoe. Choose the Wide version if the length feels right but the shoe presses on the midfoot, toe joints, or the widest part of the foot.
Don't go up several sizes to solve a width problem. You risk getting unstable heel grip and your foot slipping on technical terrain.
The right size means that:
