THE HILLEBERGS WINDBAG WAS originally designed to act as a bivouac bag in emergency situations, but it has proven to be perhaps even more useful as temporary protection in inclement weather during ski trips and other winter adventures. The windbag has a well-ventilated but water-repellent front and completely waterproof silicone-coated nylon fabric in the back.
If you want a shelter quickly, you can use the wind bag's loops in the corners to erect a wind shelter. If you need additional protection, you can unfold the wind bag, climb in and huddle against the forces of the weather. The very best thing is to dig out a spot in the snow or find a spot that offers some protection from the wind. The windbag's waterproof back/breathable front, multi-runner zipper and with a sealable lower part means that the windbag can also be used as a sleeping bag cover when using a tarp.
As a bivouac bag in emergency situations, people as well as sleeping mats and sleeping bags can be accommodated. The built-in safety line prevents it from blowing away in strong winds when getting in and out of it and there are loops in the four corners that can be used for anchoring. The top zipper has four runners that can be used to create "holes" for the head or vents and the drawstring can be used to pull the windbag down at the bottom. With a waterproof back and breathable front, it's great for use in snow pits and can also be strapped up with the red side up to signal for help. It can also be strung up as an improvised tarp.
