SiS BETA Fuel + Nootropics Apple combines a large portion of carbohydrates with caffeine, citicoline, taurine and L-theanine in a convenient gel format for endurance sports.

Each gel contains:

40 g carbohydrates

200 mg caffeine

250 mg Cognizin® Citicoline

1,000 mg L-taurine

200 mg L-theanine

159 calories

The carbohydrates come from maltodextrin and fructose in a ratio of 1:0.8 . The BETA Fuel series is developed for longer activities where the athlete wants to combine multiple carbohydrate sources and plan a higher carbohydrate intake.

The high caffeine content makes the Nootropics gel clearly different from regular energy gels. SiS recommends using the gel during the latter part of a longer workout or race, around 60 minutes before the intended effect is desired. The manufacturer also states a maximum of one serving per day .

The Apple flavor provides a fruity apple character that breaks up the citrus, berry and orange flavors. Caffeine and the other active ingredients can also give a clearer and slightly bitter aftertaste than in a regular decaffeinated gel.

Ingredients

Water, corn maltodextrin (29%), fructose (22%), L-taurine, Cognizin® Citicoline, caffeine anhydrous, L-theanine, flavors, acidity regulators: citric acid and sodium citrate, gelling agents: gellan gum and xanthan gum, preservatives: sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate and sodium chloride.

40 g carbohydrates per gel

Each gel provides 40g of carbohydrates , which is a larger serving than SiS GO Isotonic Energy Gel, which provides 22g per gel.

This means that a high carbohydrate intake can be achieved with fewer packages:

1 gel provides 40 g of carbohydrates

1 Nootropics gel and 1 regular BETA Fuel gel yields 80 g

1 Nootropics gel and BETA Fuel Chews can be combined in a larger set-up

BETA Fuel is primarily intended for longer, more intense activities over approximately two hours. SiS discusses a carbohydrate intake of 80–120 g per hour for such activities, but such a high intake must be trained in gradually and is not automatically suitable for everyone.

Since the Nootropics version is only to be taken once a day, the rest of the carbohydrate intake needs to come from, for example:

Regular BETA Fuel Gels

BETA Fuel Energy Chews

BETA Fuel 80

Caffeine-free energy gel

Sports drink

Energy bars or other food

Carbohydrate ratio 1:0.8

BETA Fuel uses maltodextrin and fructose in a ratio of 1:0.8 .

Maltodextrin is a glucose-based carbohydrate, while fructose uses a separate transport pathway for absorption. The combination is used to enable the supply of multiple carbohydrate sources during prolonged training and competition.

A higher carbohydrate intake can still cause stomach upset if your stomach is not used to it. Therefore, test the same products, amounts and times during training before an important race.

200 mg caffeine

Each gel contains 200 mg of caffeine , which is a high amount in a single serving package.

Add up the caffeine from all sources during the day:

Coffee

Energy drink

Tea

Cola

Caffeine gel

PWO

Caffeine tablets

Other supplements

Do not take another BETA Fuel + Nootropics Gel on the same day. Also be careful with other caffeine products before and after taking the gel.

Caffeine can cause, among other things:

Restlessness

Tremor

Palpitations

Stomach upset

Headache

Difficulty falling asleep

Sensitivity to caffeine varies widely, so don't try a 200mg caffeine gel for the first time during an important race.

Cognizin® Citicoline

Each gel contains 250 mg of Cognizin® Citicoline . Citicoline is a choline-containing compound that is included in SiS's nootropic blend along with caffeine, taurine and L-theanine.

SiS has developed the combination for the latter part of longer activities, where concentration and decision-making may be more demanding. This is the manufacturer's intended use and should not be interpreted as a treatment for medical fatigue or concentration problems.

L-taurine

Each gel contains 1 gram of L-taurine . Taurine is an amino acid-like compound that occurs naturally in the body and is often used in sports and energy products.

This product includes taurine as part of the combination with carbohydrates, caffeine, citicoline and L-theanine.

L-theanine

Each gel contains 200 mg of L-theanine , the same amount as caffeine. SiS describes the combination as designed for alertness and focus with a more balanced caffeine experience. Individual effects and tolerance may vary.

Recommended use

Science in Sport recommends that you:

Consume the gel directly from the package.

Use it during long-term endurance training or competition.

Save it for the later part of the activity.

It takes about 60 minutes before the intended effect is desired.

Take a maximum of one gel per day.

Uses caffeine-free BETA Fuel products for other energy intake.

Example of energy layout

About 80 g carbohydrates

1 BETA Fuel + Nootropics Apple: 40 g

1 regular BETA Fuel Gel: 40 g

Total: 80 g carbohydrates

Caffeine: 200 mg

Nootropics gel and chews

1 BETA Fuel + Nootropics Apple: 40 g carbohydrates

BETA Fuel Energy Chews according to planned quantity

Water or electrolyte drink separately

During the latter part of the race

Previous energy can come from:

BETA Fuel 80

Regular BETA Fuel Gels

BETA Fuel Energy Chews

Caffeine-free gels

Sports drink or food

Then save the Nootropics gel for a later part of the activity. SiS demonstrates the same principle in their longer energy sets: just one Nootropics gel is combined with caffeine-free BETA Fuel products.

Does the gel need to be taken with water?

The gel can be consumed directly from the package, but does not contain enough liquid to replace a separate fluid intake.

Plan water or sports drink based on:

Temperature

Humidity

Activity duration

Intensity

Individual sweat loss

Access to hydration stations

Other electrolyte products

A smaller amount of water along with the gel can make it easier to swallow and reduce the perceived sweetness.

Suitable for

Marathon

Ultramarathon

Trail and mountain running

Long bike races

Gravel and mountain biking

Triathlon

Cross-country skiing

Vasaloppet and other long-distance races

Long workouts

Activities lasting about two hours or more

Both flavors provide the same main amounts of carbohydrates, caffeine, citicoline, taurine and L-theanine. Choose based on the flavor profile you prefer and have tested during training.

BETA Fuel + Nootropics or regular BETA Fuel Gel?

BETA Fuel + Nootropics

40 g carbohydrates

200 mg caffeine

250 mg Cognizin® Citicoline

1 g L-taurine

200 mg L-theanine

Mainly for the latter part of longer activities

Regular BETA Fuel Gel

40 g carbohydrates

Same carbohydrate ratio of 1:0.8

No added caffeine

Can be used at several of the planned gel intakes

Suitable when energy is desired without nootropic ingredients

The Nootropics version should therefore not be used as a replacement for all gels during a long race. Take no more than one Nootropics gel and choose caffeine-free alternatives for the rest of your intake.

BETA Fuel + Nootropics or GO Energy + Caffeine Gel?

BETA Fuel + Nootropics

40 g carbohydrates

200 mg caffeine

Citicoline, taurine and L-theanine

Maximum one serving per day

Developed for longer endurance activities

GO Energy + Caffeine Gel

22 g carbohydrates

Typically 75 mg of caffeine in several flavors

Smaller carbohydrate and caffeine portion

Easier to distribute over several occasions

Suitable when a lower caffeine intake is a priority

Nootropics are suitable when a large and clearly planned caffeine dose is desired. GO Energy + Caffeine provides the opportunity to use smaller caffeine doses.

Taste and texture

Apple has a fruity apple flavor with a clearer flavor profile from the caffeine and active ingredients.

The gel can be experienced as:

Sweet and fruity

Slightly more bitter than caffeine-free gels

Relatively large at 60 ml

Faster in the cold

Thinner at high temperature

While running, it may be practical to consume the gel gradually over a minute or so instead of taking the entire contents in a single intake.
