Leki Roller Speed Tip

LEKI Roller Speed Tip are durable replacement tips for roller skiing, Nordic Blading and training on hard surfaces. The sharp carbide tip provides a stable pole grip on asphalt and helps you maintain an effective pole grip.

The tips are available with an 8 or 9 mm internal diameter and are mounted on the lower tube of the pole. Check the diameter of your poles before ordering. LEKI lists the Roller Speed Tip as an original spare part with Speed Tip technology and the color neon yellow/black.

LEKI Roller Speed Tip is a replaceable roller ski tip for those who train with poles on asphalt and other hard surfaces. The tip is developed for roller skiing and Nordic Blading, where a regular snow tip does not provide the same grip or durability.

The hard tungsten carbide tip, also known as hard metal, is designed to grip the asphalt with every pole insertion. A secure pole attachment provides better conditions for a controlled pole pull and reduces the risk of the tip slipping when you push away.

Roller Speed Tip is available in two sizes:

8mm

9mm

The measurement refers to the inner diameter of the tip and should correspond to the diameter of the lower part of the pole tube. LEKI's official product page lists both sizes.

The tips are normally supplied in pairs and are attached to the pole tube with a suitable thermoplastic hot melt adhesive. Always check that the tip is securely attached before each training session.

Choose the right size

It is important to choose a tip with the correct internal diameter. A tip that is too large will not sit securely, while a tip that is too small will not be able to be mounted correctly.

LEKI Roller Speed Tip 8 mm

Choose 8 mm when the diameter of the rod's bottom tube is approximately 8 mm.

This variant fits bars with narrower downtubes, among other things. Retailers state that the 8mm version is intended for bars where the tube measures 8mm at the mounting point.

LEKI Roller Speed Tip 9 mm

Choose 9 mm when the diameter of the rod's bottom tube is approximately 9 mm.

This variant is used on pole models with a slightly thicker lower tube. LEKI lists 9 mm as an official size for the Roller Speed Tip.

How to measure the rod tube

Remove the old tip if necessary to access the tube.

Measure the bottom of the rod tube with a caliper.

Measure approximately where the new tip will be located.

Choose 8 or 9 mm based on the outer diameter of the pipe.

Also check the rod model's spare parts list before ordering.

If you still have the old tip, you can also check its internal diameter. Some retailers recommend measuring the rod tube about three centimeters from the bottom edge.

Grip on asphalt

When roller skiing, the tip of the pole is repeatedly placed against a hard and often relatively smooth surface. Therefore, a tip is required that can both grip the asphalt and withstand repeated insertions.

The Roller Speed Tip uses a carbide tip that is designed for hard surfaces. Tungsten carbide is harder and more durable than many simpler metal tips, but the tip still wears out over time and needs to be checked regularly.

A worn tip can lead to:

Worse grip on asphalt

More rod drops

Impaired power transmission

Uncertain spelling

Uneven load between right and left side

Replace the tips when they have become noticeably rounded, damaged or no longer provide a reliable hold.

Mounting

Roller Speed Tip is a glued replacement tip. The usual assembly principle is that the old tip is gently heated so that the hot melt adhesive softens, after which it is removed and the new tip is assembled with a suitable thermoplastic adhesive.

Basic assembly steps

Check that the new tip has the correct diameter.

Gently heat the old tip's sleeve.

Pull the tip straight off the rod tube.

Remove old glue and dirt.

Apply appropriate thermoplastic hot melt adhesive.

Press the new tip in the correct direction.

Align the tips of both rods the same way.

Let the glue cool and harden.

Check that the tip is fully seated before use.

LEKI states that spare parts should only be installed according to the company's approved installation instructions or by an authorized LEKI service partner. Incorrect installation or modification may affect the function and safety of the pole.

If you are unsure about the installation, the tips should be replaced by a workshop or retailer with experience with ski and roller ski poles.

Check the tips before training

Pole tips are exposed to high forces and continuous wear. LEKI recommends that both poles and tips are checked before each use and that damaged parts are replaced immediately. Dirt, wear and damage can impair function.

In particular, check that:

The tip is not loose.

The sleeve does not have cracks.

The carbide is not turned off

The tip is not sharply rounded.

Both tips are pointed in the same direction

The rod tube is not damaged.

The adhesive has not started to release.

Do not continue to use a rod with a loose or damaged tip.

Compatibility

The Roller Speed Tip is designed for rods where the bottom tube diameter fits the 8 or 9mm version. The correct diameter is more important than the brand of the rod, but the rod construction and mounting system must also be compatible.

The tip can in some cases be used on rods from other manufacturers, provided that:

The rod tube has the correct diameter

The tip is intended to be glued on

The mounting depth fits

The bottom of the pole does not use its own quick-change system

Always measure the pipe before ordering.

Does not fit the LEKI Fin Vario system

LEKI poles with the Fin Vario system use special interchangeable Fin Vario tips. For example, LEKI USA states that models such as the HRC Max, HRC Marathon and PRC 750 with Fin Vario should use the separate Fin Vario Roller Tip and not a regular Roller Speed Tip.

Therefore, always check the tip on the rod and the rod model's spare parts list.

Roller Speed Tip or Fin Vario Roller Tip?

LEKI Roller Speed Tip

Glues directly onto the rod tube

Available in 8 and 9 mm

Requires heat and glue when replacing

Fits compatible poles without Fin Vario system

Simple and proven design

LEKI Fin Vario Roller Tip

Intended for LEKI Fin Vario system

Can be replaced without traditional adhesive mounting

Fits compatible Fin Vario rods only

Makes it easier to switch between different tips and troughs

Always choose the spare part intended for your specific pole model.

How often do roller ski tips need to be replaced?

Lifespan is affected by:

How often do you travel?

How hard you put in the rods

Asphalt roughness

Rider's weight and force

Rod technique

If the tips are rotated or ground

The quality of the assembly

Check the tips regularly. A good guideline is to replace them when the pole attachment starts to feel insecure despite correct technique.

Some roller ski tips can be carefully sharpened with a diamond sharpener, but the tip should be replaced if the carbide is cracked, loose, or severely worn.

Care

To extend the life of the tips:

Dry them after wet workouts

Remove gravel and dirt

Check the adhesive joint regularly

Keep the rods dry.

Avoid hitting the tips against stone and metal

Use the tips only for the intended surface and activity.

Transport the rods so that the tips do not damage other equipment.

The tips have sharp functional surfaces. Handle and transport them with care and use pole protectors or a separate pole bag. LEKI warns that the sharp parts of the tips can cause serious injuries if handled incorrectly.
