U Loader contains Palatinose as the only carbohydrate source. Palatinose is the brand name of a sugar Isomaltulose. It is a sugar with a low glycemic index (GI32) which is not optimal for a sports drink that you want quick energy from, but for a carboloader it is perfect. The uptake is 100% and it provides 4kcal/g, which is equivalent to the carbohydrate sources we have in our sports drinks.

The main reason why we chose Palatinose in particular is that it is the first and so far the only sugar that has the international seal "Happy Tooth" that Tooth Friendly International issues to products that do not have a negative impact on our teeth. Palatinose is not an effective carbohydrate source for sports drinks as it is absorbed 4-5 times slower than our carbohydrate sources in sports drinks and gels. The energy is thus delivered slowly to our muscles, something that is not interesting during the time we train and compete.

During a carbohydrate load that lasts for 2-3 days before a competition, the rate of absorption does not play a major role (ie whether the carbohydrates are stored as glycogen in the muscles in 10 minutes or only after 40-50 minutes) and given that Palatinose is kind to teeth, we have chosen this for our U Loader.

Pro tip:

Creatine Monohydrate in conjunction with carbohydrates has been shown to lead to 82% faster glycogen storage compared to just carbohydrates over a 24h period. We therefore recommend buying creatine if you are out at the last second and need to top up your stores. With a normal upload of 2-3 days, the body has time to store the carbohydrates as glycogen in the muscles and then you do not need to optimize with a simultaneous creatinine intake. But if you are out at the last second and want to be opti, this is a tip.
